I just found out that my son washed a load of clothes without checking to see if the washing machine was empty. My filter sock was still in there from a previous bleaching! I just replaced my dirty sock in my sump with this washed one and it immediately suds up!!!!! I wouldn't say it was extremely bad, but I was able to turn off my return pump before too much entered the DT. There aren't any suds in the DT at all.

Should I be concerned? I've already drained all the water from my sump and am preparing a WC. The water level in the tank is good and I have the PH's both running. Am I ok until I can get my WC change done in a couple hours? I didn't have any water prepared and I have to get it up to temperature first.:shout:

My wife has washed my filter socks with detergent before. I just ran them again with clean water, and they were fine.

Edit: just keep an eye on your live stock. maybe move a carbon reactor to the DT

I wash mine with detergent and bleach every time. I just run an extra rinse cycle and let them air dry.

You'll be fine.

I'm going to bleach both sock again and am changing out my carbon. You think I'm safe with everything in the DT?

The good news is that you didn't get dish soap or some other chemical that does a lot of damage on the microbial population.

I am not totally sure what the soap could do. There is a possibilty that it will reduce oxygen levels, or possibly drop the ph. Do you monitor ORP? If live stock starts gasping, you may want to add an oxygen source. Another possibility could be that the detergent has an oxidizer in it and you will be getting too much oxygen and that can be stressing at high levels.

I don't monitor oxygen, but everybody in the DT seems to be good. I'll see what happens and update later.

I wash mine with hot water and bleach only and air dry. Except this time of course. Some use detergent as well.

I run mine in detergent and bleach cycle with an extra rinse cycle at the end. Air dry.

Been doing this for over a year on my reef tank. No ill effects and I do not run carbon.
