Ok so I was in the process of mixing water for a water change and I ran out of salt.. it is sitting at 1.019 and my tank is between 1.021-1.023 so I am wondering if it would be a really detrimental thing for my tank or if it will be ok? I thought about letting the water sit for a few days and hopefully some evaporation will get it back up but im already behind on my water change by 2 weeks so Id like to do the change asap

the tank mainly has some green/brown palys and about 25% of the rocks covered in GSP and some mushrooms none of which im really worried about affecting but I have a RBTA that has been looking a lil pissed off not bubbling up like it used to and I dont want to make it worse by lowering the salinity

As always any help or advice is appreciated

oh and this is for my 27g cube not my 150g which is why im worried as its such a small water volume to begin with

If you can let it sit for a couple days that would lead me to believe you have time to pick up some more salt. If it were me, I would do so and get the salinity right before doing a water change.

The reason I didn't/don't want to go get more salt is that I am now unemployed and I made 50 gallons of water which would last me at least another few weeks vs spending $ and gas I don't have going out to find salt for only enough to bring it up and there are no close LFS to me

Edit: and Ive got plenty of time lol just no $

Petsmart sells a small 5 gallon package, I think it's 5 bucks. they have other small amounts also.

Thanks a bunch!! Ive never seen it sold in such a small amount..that I noticed, although I rarely go to petsmart and when I do im not normally looking for anything other than kitty litter lol .. 5 gallons worth I hope will get it where it needs to be and Ill see if my roommate can pick it up on his way home I think he passes a petsmart

This happened to me before also and I picked up a small box of Instant Ocean at LFS and 7 1/2 lb box enough for 25 gallons was 14$
I just keep it now as a back up.

I know the feeling. I am also unemployed. I don't think it would save you anything with the price of gas right now but if you wanted to come by I would be happy to give you some salt. It is Red Sea Coral Pro but it won't hurt to mix and match. There may be someone closer too you who would step up as well. What part of Atlanta are you in?

The water volume of the tank doesn't matter. What matters is the % of the water change. If it's a 10% change (3 gallons) I think you'll be fine. If it's 20% or more, you may want to bump up the SG before the change.

My roommate is gonna go to petsmart on lunch and look for a small thing of salt.. were basically in midtown/buckhead depending on who you talk to lol I was going to do a 10 gallon change on the cube and keep 10 gallons on hand for the next change with powerhead and heater and then do the remaining 30 gallons as a change on the 150g

Edit: Also good to know its ok to mix them as I have been using seachem reef salt
