Water Movement in a 33 gal tank

Just adding to the confusion but i have the same tank as my display with 400w halide and one seio 820 and one 620 with mag 5 as sump pump, mag 5 also runs the 20gal acrylic frag tank, picked up the new 620 for 41.00 including shipping on ebay, oh also have one maxi 1200 too...oh well this has become a build post for me sorry, i have nothing but sps and softies in mine and they love the flow, just my opinion though, if you would like i could keep an eye out for some good prices on some good pumps

If she's on a budget then buy one Hydor 1. The flow for the whole tank and the wide swath of water pushed far exceeds the flow produced by the equivalent purchase in Maxijets.

If this were a smaller tank, say under 20 gallons, I'd agree with the Maxijets. In this case, 2 Maxijets isn't going to get the large volume of water flow that will run the length of the tank that a single Hydor will provide. Unless she's going to get 2 Maxijet 400's, she'll pay more than the cost of one Hydor 1. Throw in the cost of the deflector which will bleed off pump power and you're up to a Hydor 2 or even 3.

I sure like the idea of keeping my tank as uncluttered as possible and I also like the suggestion of *do it right the first time* and possibly come out ahead in the long-run. Constantly upgrading and ending up with a box of so many parts 'n pieces is killing us.

Thanks, George! Will check into this. Maybe I can find a used Hydor somewhere.

Also ~ would you mod this at all, or use *as is* ? Does it/can it attach with a magnet (I really LOVE that feature).

i hooked my seio's up with a magnent so it works just like the hydor now best of both worlds plus the seio's don't use but like 8watts for the 620.

Hydors are ready to go out of the box. They come with magnet mounts (as far as I know it's the only way to mount them) and don't need any modifications.

I have read somewhere that auctual flow from a hydor is less than what they are rated at where as the seio's are underated 620gph from seio was really 648 at 8watts
