I’m kind of at a loss as to what could have happened to this one mushroom I have. It’s been super healthy for months, and this is what it looks like today. Even last night it was fine, and it’s the only mushroom I have that looks this way.

The entire mouth/middle is just, gone. I don’t have much hope of it recovering from this, I’ll still give it a few days and see what happens. I’m just not certain what could cause something like this. The little snowflake clown I have has been hosting it for weeks, and no damage was showing from it. There’s an emerald crab in there, but I’m not certain it’s the culprit either.

Has anyone experienced anything like this before? This is what it looked like on the 13th

I assume all your water parameters are good? It could have just gotten something on it that made it unhappy? Is it still looking like your first picture?

Literally everything else in the tank is thriving and has new growth (other than the 2 stressed hammers from my bedroom tank, that are back on the mend in this one). Someone on R2R suggested it could be splitting. None of the other ones I’ve had split, looked anything like this. But, this one is also 4”+.

My best working theory currently is that it was trying to split, but the clown over-stressed it. One half of the foot looks like it wants to split while the other is solid.

I just took this picture of what it looks like currently

The snowflake clown is still constantly in it

Could it just be splitting? I've had a mushroom divide itself right down the middle in a pretty gnarly, concerning way before.

It’s a giant donut, with no discernible mouth is the only problem. I’m hoping that’s what’s going on.
