Hey guys, I've had some problems keeping a maxi nem and would like to figure out what went wrong. Any input is appreciated.
I bought this maxi nem about a month ago, it did great for a few weeks, then crawled under my rocks. I moved the rocks so that it wasn't completely buried, but it kept going under the rocks. I noticed the mouth looked strange and big, and that just kept getting worse and worse. Yesterday morning I found the nem out in the open on my sandbed, which seems very strange. Basically the anemone deteriorated from the mouth outward until there was practically nothing left. I flushed it after deciding that it reached a point of return and didn't want to damage the rest of my tank. I would like to know what went wrong though, so that I can possibly try again in the future. Here are pics of the progression.
After it hid under a rock for a few days I flipped it over to see this -

The next day it was significantly worse and there was slime floating all around my tank, and when I noticed one of my SPS frags RTN'd I decided to QT the anemone.
whats left was this
