If you decide to try one... I hope you have a HUGE tank... minimum 6' even for a smaller specimen. They are very active, very fast swimmers and they stress in small spaces.
Quarantine is AN ABSOLUTE MUST... these fish are extremely prone to ich and protozoan infestations. Given that they stress very easily this can be a recipe for disaster if you don't quarantine first and treat at the first sign of problems.
I've never personally seen one last long-term. I don't even bring them in. I might if somebody had an appropriate system and a quarantine suitable, but otherwise, they are a beautiful fish but best left in the wild, IMO.
