with my other thread I was thinking of boning up on the matrix and creating a forced flow though my sump area where a skimmer WOULD be....

If you have a sump.....I'd run a skimmer. No sump, then I'd just rely on the water changes.

On a sps tank yes on a zoas soft coral tank no.

I have a skimmer on a 27 cube with a 9 gallon sump. I do 5 gallon water changes every week to. I also have a gfo reactor.

I would run a skimmer on anything I could run a skimmer in.

I have run a slimmer on a 10 gal nano with 10 gal sump.

Skimmers do more than skim 'proteins'. They contribute greatly to gas exchange.

I"m just having issues getting my skimmer to function like it should and not be too loud... going for a REALLY quiet tank

w plenty of circulation and an open top i think my gas exchange is fine, but I see what you're talking about....
