Thinking of buying a yellow wrasse (aka yellow "coris" wrasse) to control flatworms, etc. Those that have it, please share your thoughts, ie, aggression, effectiveness, etc? Also read where it may even eat red bugs. As an added bonus, the fish looks cool.

Admittedly, I haven't had much luck with wrasses in that the most docile ones (eg, Tanaka Pygmy Wrasse) seem to go "rambo" on tank mates.

I love mine. Wouldn't trade him for nothing. He is indistructable and the only fish that made it through my brook outbreak last spring. He never bothers any other fish or inverts and is extreamly active. Just make sure you have a good sand bed for him to burrow in.

I had one many years ago and it was a model citizen. Very active and didn't bother anyone. Make sure you don't get a baby Banana Wrasse as they look similar when young but are quite different when older. My yellow wrasse had a black spot in the center to rear of its dorsal fin. The banana wrasse doesn't have the spot or has it near the front. The banana also has iridescent stripes on its face that get more pronounced when mature.

Just read up on Banana Wrasses, and looking at Google images, they seem to have it occasionally mixed with a yellow wrasse.

I saw a yellow wrasse at a LFS yesterday and noticed multiple black dots on its fin.

Does it have to be fine sand?

No. I have Carib Sea Hawaiian black and mine is happy. I like the fish and he doesn't bother anyone. Never seen him eat a flatworm but they stay under control, so he might be eating them when I'm not looking.

there are a few types of yellow wrasses that stores call "coris", Halichoeres leucoxanthus and H. chrysus. H. leucoxanthus have a white belly and i've heard get much larger than H. chrysus. H. chrysus have less black dots, i think 3 vs 4 on the leucoxanthus and get more pink/purple in their tail.

i've been looking to get one too, i heard pure has a good bit in stock. i'm waiting to get one till im in town a little more

One downside to this fish is that they are prolific "jumpers". Make sure you use a screen or lid to keep these guys in the tank or they will end up on the floor.

I can't add anything to the experiences already posted, but I will say mine is one of my faves in the tank. Very personable, and always busy.

Model citizen, def a jumper, and still havent seen him eat any flats...

Never bothered my Blood Red Fire Shrimp or any of my clean up crew that I have seen.
