Anyone running 250 halides ...

With <u>OUT</u> a chiller?

I am getting closer and closer to breathing some life into this beast. This may be yet another roadblock.

175 tank
total water volume will be around 220-230
4x250 halides

Set up is in basement where it is a little cooler. I was hopeing to get away with a few fans.

Any thoughts?

I dont have a chiller... 2x250 with bulbs about 4-5" off the water.. Granted it runs on the warm side in the summer 80-81..

on my 75 with a 20 gallon sump i am running 2x250 mh with no chiller and it is staying around 77-78 with the bulbs 10 inches off the water

Same here. 2 x 250w. No chiller just a ceiling fan.

I do not have chiller, just a fan. You have seen my basement tank. I am running 3-250's about 9" above the water. Using only a fan to cool timed to come on after MH.

2 x 400w on a 150 gallon and 55 gallon sump (sump in basement).

When I had the lights hanging and no canopy (open top) I only had to run one fan in the summer and no fans in the winter.

I now have the lights enclosed inside a canopy. I have had to add a few more fans.

2 x 250 on a 90G, 8" off water. With one fan linked into a controller, we swing from 79.0 to 79.5 during the summer. Also have three mag drive pumps in the sump and two 70 watt halides on nano in system.

run a single 250 over my 34gal cube. 8" off the water with a single 3" fan blowing across surface. Low temp 77.8 high 79.1 in middle of summer with room temp at 76.

I have a 125 with 40 gallon sump 20 gallon ref. and a 20 gallon frag all run together with 3 250w halides and no chiller and it stays 79

Mine (2x250 on a 90) will stay under "the mark" (82) without one, but the chiller runs probably 10min every 2 hrs to keep it at 80, this with an ambient temp of 78.

I'm running three 250W MH and two 54W VHO on my 210. I have not had to use a chiller but I have about 450 gallons moving through the system

Running 3x250's, one on the frag tank and 2 on the display with no fans or chiller, temp never tops 79.2 but being from north of the Mason-Dixon line my house is at 70 degrees constantly.

I assume the larger your sump area is, in ratio to your display...the cooler your system will stay? Thats my hope anyway.
I will initially have 2 70 gallon rubbermaid stock tanks behind the wall, that realistically will probably hold maybe 40 gallons each. Soon after I will tie in a refugium tank...maybe even a display macro tank.

But for now a 175 display with sand and rocks...what...maybe 150 actual gallons?

So...150 display...80 sump.

Hopefully wont have to spend that chiller money!

The only thing that worries me about this fixture is it does not appear to be very well ventilated. Its sealed pretty tight. The only vents are on the ends. No fans either. We'll see.

I honestly see a major canopy build on down the road.

But I <u>did</u> just installed 4 new Phoenix 14k's last week and fired it up.

That's what I put in mine for the 250's. Ushio 20k for the 150's

1 250w on a 30 hex. I did need a fan, but I was able to keep it under 81 at its peak. I had to top off a lot though.
