I bought an almost full bucket of Salinity from another ARC Member here when I picked up another piece of equipment from him off the FS forum. I mixed up 160 gallons of new SW using the Salinity a few days ago. It was mixed thoroughly. I use IO exclusively so this salt is a change for the reef. This was for my 465 gallon reef.

I added 30 gallons of the new Salinity and it clouded up the entire tank and made one of my acropora colonies slime up.

I know the cloudiness issue with Salinity has been addressed before, but I've never experienced it. The acro colony sliming up does bother me, however.

The efect seems to have subsided, and the tank looks OK now.

I'm wondering if I should just dispose of the remaining 130 gallons of new Salinity SW? The cautious Reefer says yes, but the cheapskate in me says no.

I have never seen an acropora colony slime up because of a small water change before.

Dave, I have a few colonies that slime up everytime I use salinity. So far, there has been no negative results

Every time I do a big water change I see it happen with salinity and Red Sea. By big I mean 40-45 on a 210.

Dave, you should probably post this question in the Seachem forum, or give them a call.

Just curious - did you mix up the dry salt at all first? It's not a bad idea to roll the sealed bucket around a bit if it's been sitting a while - some of the elements may settle.

Clouding is a common issue for Salinity, but the sliming was my main concern. I did not roll the bucket around, but I used the entire bucket for the water and it mixed for several hours, so I don't think settling would have been the issue, as all of it went into the batch of water water (didn't say that in post #1).

I typically mix up 100-150 gallons of water, blend it thoroughly, then set the WC station pump to come on for 5 minutes every three hours to keep it moving once in a while, and I will typically use it over the next 3 weeks or so.

Ummmmmmm....not sure. Long stringy mucous is the best descriptor I can offer. The coral looks fine now.

Probably mesenterial filaments. I wouldn't sweat it too much. Mine react that way for 30 mins or so.

I did a 30g change this morning(what I do weekly for the ~120 total water volume). My favorite acro sent out the filaments, when I got home a few mins ago, it looks beautiful!

Mesenterial filaments are normally a feeding response. I'm just going to assume that salinity has some extra goodness in it that makes my acro think it is feeding time. :)
