Bill's 150

Man what a shame. But look at the bright side of it. Now you have an empty canvas on which to paint your masterpiece. :-)

Rich you have a point and that tank grew out even more than what was in that picture, now if I just could figure out what is causing all the cyano in my 150

I am having a little bought with the cyano as well. Reset my light cycle on Sunday so we will see if that has any affect.

That is in the plan of attach down the road if all else fails. I know it works like a champ but before I go that route I want to see if I can find the underlying cause.

I changed a couple of lamps to see if the light spectrum I was using may be a cause, I check all water params and they are great just as I would expect with a new tank and bi-weekly water changes. I will give it a couple of days with the new lamp configuration and then will go to lights off for a few days

LOL No, I just had one patch about the size of a dinner plate. Came out easily with the vacuum. I have a dusting now but not certain if that is diatom or the dreaded stuff. LOL Going to keep an eye on it over the next couple of days and see how it progresses.

I turned the lights off yesterday appears cyano is breaking up, figure I will leave them off 1 more day hopefully this will get a handle on this outbreak. If lights off don't get rid of it guess I will do a bit more research as all my water tests are excellent and a 30 gallon WC is done every other week. I know its something simple I'm overlooking if it isn't lighting, the one thing I changed are the type of actinic lamps I started using wave point reef wave lamps that are 420nm and are more purple than blue so I wonder if this might be an issue.

Had to shutdown the closed loop the blueline pump I switched to was raising the water temp more than I expected or can tolerate. Checked water temp this afternoon and digital thermometer read 84.3 even though water didn't feel that warm to the touch, so I put a stick on the face of the glass and it read between 82 and 84.
Does anyone have a chiller they want to get rid of as it appears I will need to go that direction if I want to use my closed loop during the warmer months.

Hey Boots,

It was good talking with you the other day at the meet. Sorry to hear about the crimson carpet, it bites setting up a new system. Be glad, it could be worse- it could be Bryopsis ; )
On the brighter side, the next time you end up getting a service call up towards Hiawassee or Blairsville, give me a call (send me a PM I'll get you my number), I've got some frags that I'd like to donate to help get the tank seeded.

Edit: Oh, I may be able to help with the chiller issue as well.

Rich I believe you know me as one who doesn't show off much so posting pics of my tank are rare and generaly in response to a specific purpose. I will get some pics and post them now that most of that crimson red carpet has disappeared.

If you look around some you can find some pumps that will circulate more water with way less watts which translates less heat as I am sure you know.
Sicce, WaterBlaster

I was using a posideon which is super quite and didn't have much heat transfer but didn't have the flow I needed. blueline has the flow but WOW the heat transfer is incredible, raised water temp 7 degrees. put koralia low volt controlable system back in and water temp fell 6 degrees overnight.

In response to request for pics I am posting a couple of the hanging canopy I built and finally got hung yesterday.

Edit: will post pics of tank after lights are on and corals have extended

I like the canopy. :-) Do you have a way to raise it when needed or do you need a step ladder like I used to have to do? LOL

No lifting means resorting to short mans friend the 2 foot stool or 4 foot step ladder depending on whether its the receptacle or switch I'm trying to reach

due to request I am posting a few pics of the tanks inhabitants not much to see yet but the frags are growing quite well and I am looking forward to see what this tank will look like in a year
