I was at Pure Reef this afternoon. George has a beautiful black tang. Its kind of rare and a very high dollar fish. He said it will sell for $525. Its the size of a half dollar and is eating very well. I guess its a bargain as I saw one at Live Aquaria for $899.99. You guys ought to go by and see it and take your plastic as its very cute. Someone will want this fish!

It's somewhat spoken for.... But i think if Jorge doesn't hear from the guy soon hes going to sell it or more likely keep it.

i saw a tag on it a few hours, i think i remember it at 499, but I could just be rounding down in my head from 525, none the less, beautiful fish.

You were rounding down, happends all the time with impulse buying in this hobby lol

At least it does for me.

true, i think its an internal defense to make you feel like you are spending less money than you actually did.

size of a half dollar...

really?

so.. it's LITERALLY worth its weight in gold..

but the only problem is as they get bigger they are actually cheaper. As far as fresh off the boat purchase.

Probably because the bigger they are, the fewer buyers can house them. Lots of folks can house a 1-2" Tang, but when they get up to the 5+" size the number of reefers with huge tanks goes down a lot.

The bigger ones are cheaper because they are easier and more abundant to collect. Almost all black tangs originate from Christmas Island (Kirimati). There aren't a lot OD collectors there, and small ones are more difficult to collect.

Makes sense!:)

Now what is the consensus on their temperment? some say semi aggressive where others say peaceful? anyone own one?

Was up there today and saw the little guy... and he is little. Cool fish, but couldnt bring myself to pony up that much dinero for what looks like a black "yellow" tang.
