Chapter 1: IM Nuvo40

So I just picked up a used 40 gallon and noticed the seams when I came home.
Are these ok? The left side seems to be a little concerning.

They look ok but it's super easy to do a reseal. Plenty of videos on how to do it. The King of DIY on youtube has a real good video on it. You just have to make sure that you use silicone 1 by GE or you can find some aquarium safe black silicone on Amazon. I've resealed two tanks.

Sorry its a Nuvo rimless AIO. I'm not sure if that matters
So is it OK as is or is it a ticking time bomb?

Watch inappropriate reefers videos documenting seal breaks on used tanks on YouTube and Instagram. Read the comments. Most folks say fix the seams rather than losing it all later on from a pop.

The silicone holding the glass together should be fine. If it were mine, I'd take a razor blade and, without slicing in between the glass, remove the silicone to reveal a 90° angle made by the glass. Tape up straight lines in the corner so that there can be a 1/4" bead of silicone applied and smooth with (gloved) finger. This will ensure the seal is not degraded any further. As a rule of thumb, do the bottom beads at the same time, all the silicone needs to cure at the same time so it creates a good seal.

Don't beat up the corners with a magnetic cleaner once it's running and you won't have to reseal it again in the future.

What’re your thoughts on the seal on the bottom of the tank?

Hey guys and gals I thought about this all night and think I’m just going to use it as is. The seal holding the glass together looks fine. And I think there’s a good chance that I’d mess up and make it worse if I tried to reseal it.
If anything happens you guys can all say “we told you so...”

We will say that and see how we can help at the same time.
