Sigh, no, you're right... I do think the top is the way to go, but I just can't make myself do it!
Though... I have seen the theory out there that fish jump when they're in "shallow" water, and that one way to prevent it is to keep your rock/'scape well below the surface of the water. YMMV!!!

The tank came with a net & frame cover but there are small gaps around the perimeter - less than half an inch.

Fish are doing good and eating. I have to crush 2mm pellets for them because they are so tiny.

Hahaha... “the other guy” is more indicative of how many clownfish sleep. But I’ve seen some strange motionless clowns sleeping before.
Sometimes, one of my clowns likes to bury its head into the anemone, and leave it’s limp body and tail hanging out. When it does this, it looks like a dead clown being eaten by the Nem. But that’s just how mine sleeps sometimes.
I wouldn’t be worried about your clown. Nonetheless, I’d still keep an eye on it’s wakeful behavior and physical appearance to ensure it’s healthy.

Yep they are both awake and swimming now. What an idiot...who sleeps like that? Lol.
But on a serious note, I was thinking about adding a goby/pistol shrimp pair to the tank - will nemo become a midnight snack if he sleeps on the sand bed like that?
Speaking of gobies, I like the yellow watchman but read that they don't sift too much sand and just sit in their burrows.
Then I look at the diamond and they sift a bunch of sand but don't have the groovy symbiotic relationship with the shrimp. The diamonds also apparent murder shrimp.

I can tell you that a diamond goby will sift major amounts of sand.
I have one in a 40 breeder with about a 2"+ sand bed - the tank has algae, bubble algae, cyano etc - not a lot of any of it but some of all. Basically I put ugly things in this tank because I have quite a few emerald crabs that LOVE bubble algae, snails and hermits that all do a good job of cleaning things.
This 1 diamond goby keeps that entire sand bed looking absolutely brand new at all times. Throughout the entire tank the sand seriously looks brand new. Drawback is he'll cover up just about anything that is on the sand bed eventually.
Mine is not in with any shrimps so I can't comment on them killing any other CUC members.

Agreed. It seems like you’re trying to find a fish that plays these two roles simultaneously. Of all the watchmen gobies, not many of them are also sand sifters. Watchmen, by definition of their name, simply keep watch for predators. So they’re not going to roam around the tank cleaning everything.
That said, my Pink Spot Watchman Goby also sifts a huge amount of sand. And I also agree, any sand sifters are going to be a pain in the neck if you have any corals near the sandbed. Unfortunately, my pink spot will dump mouthfuls of sand on top of corals, even if they are at the top of my tank. It’s a give-and-take. We can’t control the behavior of these animals. Just care for and appreciate them for who they are.

Wife wanted a purple firefish. So I stopped by Atl Aquarium and found a large and healthy looking specimen. Took it home, acclimated it and put it in the tank.
Sucker went straight to the bottom underneath the rocks.
I waited 30 min and then disassembled one rock stack to make sure it was ok. He was fine but then moved under the other rock stack. Haven’t seen him since...

They are gobies he might stay under there for quite a while
That’s 100% normal behavior for them. They hide all the time.
When you buy a fire fish, what you are hoping for is: that after 1-2 months, he will realize it’s peaceful, and begin to spend more time in the open than hiding. Otherwise, the species’ just hide in the rockwork all the time and peak out occasionally.

Get him a pistol shrimp.
Unfortunately, they aren’t gobies, nor specifically watchmen gobies. They are a dartfish.

They do better when you have more than one in same tank.
I hear you but I don't want to spend another $30-$40 and risk having two fish hiding...uggg.
He poked his head out 2 or 3 times in the last 10 minutes. I'm hopeful.
He was swimming around at the LFS tank...I hope he stops being such a wuss and comes out. He's bigger than my clownfish, lol.
