Looking at getting a controllable DC return pump, I have heard a lot of good things.
I am planning on getting one of the larger ones, like the Jebao DC 12000 (http://www.fish-street.com/jebao_dc_water_return_pump?category_id=126">http://www.fish-street.com/jebao_dc_water_return_pump?category_id=126</a>). I want to be able to run the pump to a manifold that will feed my DT, Frag Tank, UV, and other equipment.

Anyone tried the Jebao DC pumps? I have a couple of the WP25s that I have had great success with, just wondering if this success will transfer over to their DC return pumps.

I know many have had success with the Waveline DC units, may go that route if it seems to be a better choice. Reef Octopus is selling some as well, any thoughts on these? ([IMG]http://www.saltysupply.com/Diablo-DC-10500-Variable-Speed-Water-Pump-p/oc9229.htm">http://www.saltysupply.com/Diablo-DC-10500-Variable-Speed-Water-Pump-p/oc9229.htm</a>)

Thanks,
Grant

I've had a DC12000 for a few months. Very happy with the pump, Apex controllable, silent and produces tons of consistent flow. I'm using it on my 150g reef and have to turn it down halfway or the tank will overflow

Is that the Waveline or Jebao DC12000?

I'm pretty sure a lot of the dc pumps are all the same and just rebranded

That is what I am hoping (or at least hoping to hear), that would give me more justification for going with the Jebao pump to save a few bucks. (I know.. I know... You get get what you pay for in this hobby, but my experience with the Jebao power heads has been very positive, just hoping their DC pumps are just as good)

I'm looking for two more of the Jebao if anyone has any laying around. Bought two on eBay that were never shipped.

Well, in this case it seems like you get the same no matter what you pay (for the most part). Most of them look the same....I doubt several different design teams came up with products that look identical to each other.

What's the reason for controllable return pumps? Do you just not need to adjust the flow with a valve? Been out of the hobby for a year and just saw these.

Restricting the valve puts unneeded stress on the impeller and casing. As far as my experience goes they are as silent as the powerheads are. They sound cool when ramping up to start too

I understand the quiet part. I've honesty never had a return pump fail by ramping it down in over 12 years in the hobby. I saw they have a feed mode but cutting off the pump for 10 minutes your still going to need to cut off the skimmer pump.

I've had Jeabo 12000 for a few months now. It has been a great pump and yes it does sound cool when it's ramping up :p

That's the beauty of most of these pumps, they can be controlled (flow rate) through the apex. So using feed mode through apex, you can program whatever you want to shutoff or ramp up or down during feed mode.

Did you use the reef angel cable (like with the WPs) to connect to the Apex?

Nice!

They can be used either way, internal or external. I use the reef angel cable for the return, and WP25's.

I'm ready to see the Jebao dc skimmer. I think I'm going to go ahead and order the Jebao sc pump . I'll give some feed back when I get it .
