Die of of Acros

We don't mind:thumbs:

Maybe cyano at the base of the acros that are dieing? By chance? Or very close to the irritated acros?

how long are they in his tank before they deteriorate now?

any ALGAE or Cynobacteria present?

MOST IMPORTANTLY, imho......do the corals tips look like a color made from GOD?.....or are they kinda just plain and have some brown or green stuff on them?

Stn usually starts at the base and slowly works its way to the tips. RTN generally starts at the tips and works it way to the base, quickly. Which one do you have?

Some have been in the tank for a year some only about ten weeks. Have not added any Spence die off started

Edit: Higher than ideal nutrient level is not the only cause for STN in Acropora.

one of the most common, if other research has been done...but, yes, you are correct....not only!

Most have started at the base and worked its way out.
a few have had the tips turn white then get some cyano on the tips thin the whole coral died. but most have started at the base.

Many have experienced STN in ULN Systems

Edit: Mike read these articles. The ymay not fix the problem but will help you with perhaps finding the cause.

Stn can happen from all kinds of stuff. Bacteria, parasites, temp, parameters, lack of light, too many nutrients, too little nutrient, you name it.

Too much light on nutrient starved acros may cause STN as well. Most of the time if it is high nutrients other signals appear first like Mike stated brown color and algae.

he doesn't have a ULNS! lol

because his API kit reads 0 on trates and phates...He doesn't have enough utrient export!

Dave builds tanks (about the best, I might add), and argues with me...not bad at that either, I really know about nutrient export!

But, in the end, it's your choice!

Food stamps from Dave, or real SPS growth from Ralph! (just playing....)

Here was my last food stamp collection.;)

I can't wait to see your numbers Mike. With the 26 fish and 10 Tangs I never did understand nutrient export. Catch up Ralph and put some fish in that bowl!

The last one to start dieing started two days ago it a big collony we have had a few months. it was all brown when we got it and now in the last week it has a few bright purple tips and now it is starting to die from the base up.

I've never happened upon a fairly new keeper of acropora reefer (unless zeo and such) have too little nutrients... Just saying

What are you feeding? And are you feeding corals? Please don't feed sps right now!

I am a big fan of UVs. I had a couple of colonies STN and halted after I started using the UV, anecdotal evidence at best but is my experience.

Pull a ruler out and measure them already! Geeze!

Both are beautiful tanks.
