Hello Everyone!

About me? 6 weeks ago, my mom tells me she doesn't like her 36 gallon freshwater bow front. So I do a search on fish and see a cool tank pic from an ARC member and I thought obviously, "That tank looks really cool... I'll, lets just change her tank over to saltwater for her and make it look like that one.". So I promise her I'll set it up next week. It's as easy as adding salt and a few fish, right?

So I start to research on ARC, and then start reading threads on ARC nightly, and soon it became daily and nightly, and then when I'm at work on breaks, and when I wake up in the middle of the night to...
and I love seeing all the new posts and killer looking tanks and different types of doo-hickeys and whatchamacallits that make them work and the cool green glowing plant/animal looking things and what does this do and that do, and why use calcium, and whats a DT (**** Tank?), frag, or a sump, skimmer, denitrator, or refusium, or LPS, SPS, acripora, montipora, Acanthastrea, enchinophyllia, zoa, blastomussa, poly, ... and OMG I get a headache as if I'm trying to learn freaking latin...BUT I JUST CANT STOP!

Fast forward to 6 weeks and $600 later, I'm just beginning this addiction and see its going to be the death of me... loss of sleep, checking for coins in the couch to save up for new frags from spikescorals, staying up late checking out those frags, researching this part and that part and cost and what size and dimensions will I need.

Anyways, 6 weeks later and now I've got a half dozen frags in her tank and she's happy with the way it looks (1,000 times better than the freshwater). I'll post a pic soon.

I must say that this site has taught me almost everything I know about saltwater, but Please! My newby question to you is DOES IT EVER END??? :)

I guess it's time to start to change over my 70 gallon soon. :S

Seriously though ARC peeps, thanks for the helpful site. It's taught me a lot of lessons already!

were glad to have you! there is many very knowledgable people on this site that will be happy to answer any question you have. but to answer your current question... no, it never stops. you just keep going until your tank is full, then you go bigger and better, then bigger and better, and so on. it truely is an addiction...

I can see it now:
me: " yes ma'am, i am checking into rehab"
Nurse: :and which substance ails you most?"
me: "FRAGS!!!!"

It never ends-It's like the alcoholic-one is never enought! (I have 7 salt and 1 fresh and one on the floor waiting to go up):D Holley

I don't think it ever ends. In fact I was going to start a thread a while back titled...IS ANYONE DONE YET. My guess is there are few.

Welcome!

You have been bitten by the bug - Me too, over a year later I still exhibit behavior you mention above....Im at work right now!

It got to a point that I got so caught up in it my back account was taking a serious toll....I had to take a step back and tell myself - put down the powerhead and go buy groceries you dumb*ss! I would explain to my gf that the budget was tight and we needed to find alternate ways to save money.....as a $400+ Chiller was delivered!!!!

so no, it will never end but the members here are like my extended family...

25 years and counting... and a store later.

It started with a 2 1/2 gallon tank and 2 goldfish...

Welcome to the dark side!

Jenn

There is a Reefers Anonymous meeting tonight at Fish Scales. Starts at 8 but part of the therapy is that you must relinquish your most prized coral to the cause. No worries it will be in great hands.:lol2:

Once an addict always an addict. Some reefers may leave for a while but they WILL be back!

+1 on all the above. It never ends. I tried to get out by selling everything on my 120 a few months ago. Before you know it. I was re-buying all these equipment getting ready for a new tank build before I even finish selling the 120. It's an addiction that doctors have not found a cure for. There's no AA meetings to help. The only thing that will ease your addiction is going to a LFS or frag meetings!! Hahaha

Frag Withdrawls! Lol. That's how I feel lately. Just glad to hear I'm not alone. I can see it now. My names inzzane, and I'm an addict. I like almost any frag I could get my hands on, and often find myself doing a frag deal. Yep, I call my dealer to see what he's got available, and the cost because the really good stuff can be expensive. Later we meet in a parking lot, backing our cars next to each other if it's a big deal, then make the exchange and rush straight home. :D Sounds like a scene on a lot of TV shows.

Thank you for the welcome everyone!

Thank you for the welcome everyone!

Ive exchanged many a baggies in parking lots!! and bought some frags too! LOL:lol2:

Sounds familiar... 2 years ago I got a free 75g tank and decided on the spur of the moment to go SW with it. Now we have four tanks running and a 210g going in the bedroom. It's a problem, I tell ya.

Uh yeah... my bank account is STILL reeling from the hurting I put on it setting up my 180, but I still want to add a nano cube to the office cubicle and a solana in the kitchen...

Help me...

Thank you all for the welcomes! I can see this will expand to a lot more... (already thinking about 500 sq. ft. of unused basement space for frag tanks :confused2:), and look forward to the frag meetings... and thanks for the DT explanation! I really thought it meant the other :D
I'm not sure how these pics will turn out, but here's my first shot at a saltwater tank. 36G Bowfront, No sump... yet. Lighting is 96watt, 4x 24w T5's with dual actinic, and dual 10K. Both actinics and 10K are on in pics. If there's any recommendations, let me know.
70 Gallon will be next once this one's up to par.
