I bought a Dual Powerhead. It's a Aquatop CP-24 3170 gal/hr. I originally wanted just the single, but were not in stock (no date given). It has great flow, actually too much for my current tank. I am thinking about removing one of the impellers. My thinking is, reduce it to half, giving me more placement options, and move less sand around. I have had installed for several months now, just never tried this...but been bugging me.
Anyone see a problem doing this in regards to the internal motor?

If you remove the impeller. The motor will over amp and burn out.

Yeah that was what I was thinking might happen. ;) Wasnt sure how these little guys worked inside.

you could try to disrupt the flow some. Ratings are based on max output, doesn't mean there aren't alternatives to fighting (-=

Yeah I had thought about limiting the input a bit...like with pantyhose or the like. That or zip tying the same material to the output.

Don't limit input, only output. Limiting input can put strain on the pump from everything I've read. Output and you're okay.

Well I would think either way I would put more strain on it. Either on the suction side or head side unless I make the diverter further out. Which... Ehhh is going to make this PH massive :D I may just toss a timer on it. At least until I can find a bigger tank.
