Eli's Senior Project

Heater, Lights, Protein skimmer, powerheads.

I have the money for the cheaper items, but I've been waiting until I got enough for the live rock.
Can you post the dimensions of the frag setup? Do you know how much total water to size up a protein skimmer? What amount of liverock, i.e. lbs. do you think you'll need? Have you acquired a RODI setup yet? What type of light are you planning for the sump/liverock area?

Are you planning on adding a bucket or drum after the coral tank to catch the debris with some pads/polyester and Seachem matrix. If you go with a larger drum as a prefilter; pads/polyester, you could layer some pads and change out the top ones. Then you could rotate the leftover bottom ones to the top and place new pads in the bottom.

From the top -

Dimensions - 10' 24" by 12"

Gallon estimate - About 180gal

LR - Since it' a low bioload system I was thinking around 100.

RODI- I have an RODI unit. Its only 75gph, but I''ll make due.

Sump light - Clip on lights from home depot. The large metal ones.

I planned on either putting filter socks on the return lines. Or Making a 5 gal bucket filter.

Just wanted to make a quick post thanking cnbridge for donating some awesome pumps and filter socks!

I can throw a dozen frags your way when you are ready.

Cool project!

Maybe not much of a help, but I actually am an electrician. Any electrical parts or work you need I'm sure I can supply.

Thanks so much for the support guys! Things have crazy with the testing and college applications. I'm going to try to get the project back on course in the next few weeks. Hopefully I'll get the money for the LR and Lighting.

I have a spare Chinese 120Watt LED that I will donate. Best of luck with your project. Please PM me your address and I will ship it to you this weekend.

I have a Reef Octopus Regal skimmer that would be happy to loan you for the project, but I would want it back

I think I'll try and get my own. I never feel comfortable with borrowing things. Thank you so much for the offer though.

Impressive - I don't have any gear but if u can set up a paypal I can spare some change. Pm me or post it... I'll be following

Bump for an Awesome Project! Can you list the items your still needing to launch this school project? Hopefully everything is coming together.

Hey guys, I've been super busy applying to various colleges so I haven't really got much done on the project. Blus4ala was super kind and donated a 120w led to go over the tank and I have the OSB ready to enclose the porch. Hopefully everything will be running by Thanksgiving. I'm still needing LR and a protein skimmer, but I think I can use the LR from my tanks up now to seed the tank since the bioload will be nice and low.

Thanks for keeping the thread alive while I was gone guys, looking forward to getting it on track again.

Okay guys, here is the most recent update.

Everything is up an and running. Just need to hang the lights and get a protein skimmer. I sold my 28gal so I should be able to buy some more live rock. Right now I have about 35lb. I also need to find away to hang the filter socks I have.

Looking forward to getting some livestock in there and having some visitors from the club come check it out :D

Glad to hear things are moving along! you can have this as well if you subscribe to the anything is better than nothing theory.

It came with a tank setup I bought from another ARC member and neither of us know the history

Cautionary note: I could not dial this in for the life of me. It was very adjustment sensitive as well as water height sensitive. (I am new to the hobby so someone with more experience might achieve better results. )

Maybe someone here at ARC knows of a LRS where you can purchase them. Better yet; maybe someone here at ARC has some of the holders in their spare closet of reef stuff that they could donate to a Great Project -- Eli's Senior Project  .

I also found this option that may work for you if nobody has any brackets to donate. It's from a sponsor here at ARC and you should be able to get a club discount for being an ARC member. Here's two links for two different types:
