So after 15 years I got back into this money pit of a hobby and love it. I have a new bride of over a year....

I sent her to memos at lunch to grab some RO water. She comes home tonight with a beautiful red mushroom for our new tank. Last week she purchased a sailfin. I feel like I died and went to heaven.

I wish this for everyone in the club lol.

Yeah, it’s all great, until you’re on the 3rd tank upgrade shopping for a Starfire 180, maxed out. So then decide you really need to remodel the basement, you know, to show it off. Then they get all weird because you want to spend a little more to do it right. I mean, at that point what’s another $20k, right?

Lol, j/k
Welcome back & congratulations!

Sharing the hobby is the best. Word of marital/aquaria advice: be clear on quarantine protocols before surprises get plopped into your display tank!

My wife allows 1 tank per house. No “ands” i
“if” or “but”s. She’s sneaky, she knows I won’t hav be time to take care of tanks elsewhere but weasels me into investing more

Thankfully my wife is extremely supportive, as long as I stick to a sane budget that doesn't impact our household finances too much in any given pay period. She enjoys having the aquariums, loved my old reef tank way back when, and she knows it makes me happy. We're up to five running tanks in the house now that my 50 is coming online.

That said, it doesn't hurt that I take her to her very favorite restaurant ever in Chamblee (Harmony Vegetarian Chinese) every time I need/want to go out to Southern Aquatics for something 🤣

Still, she pretty much has a rule that once I've convinced my penny-pinching self that I want something enough to spend money on it, she usually goes along, especially when it comes to computers, guns/ammo, and fish.

At one point she thought I'd said the new computer I was planning to build was going to be $15k, and just went along with it. Granted, she looked at me like I'd grown a second and third head every time it came up for the next few weeks, but said she'd figured I had a reason... the look of relief on her face when I finally re-stated it was going to be just over $5k was amazing to watch... not to mention the "well if THAT's all it is...!" Heh.

I have been informed I'm not to do that on purpose in the future, however, just to get her to agree to something readily 😂
