Hair Algae Galore

Yes I do. I never go higher then 0... Although Alpharetta is not as bad as others - 40 at the tap.

The more I think about it the more I tend to go that route...

My bad for sure. This may be cheaper than trying to remove it at this point.

Before I did anything, I would switch back to GFO, change frequently even 2 times a week first, keep your de-nitrify going, and algae fix for at least 6-7 doses..tech m not a bad start either..when hair algae is allowed to grow prolifically, it does take on a more feathery appearance...

In my humble opine.

You could take care of the maybe bryopsis this way as well as the hair algae. Might want to consider cutting the corals off the existing rock. That way you are sure to not transmit any attached algae of either type.

I have a ton of bleached rubble pieces I'd give you if you want any to reattach your corals to if you go that route.

Another opportunity would be to try the new aquascape bare bottom at first. Nice thing about a BB tank is it is easy to add substrate if you decide you don't like it, even with the system up and running. I removed all the substrate from my 300 gallon when I was losing my SPS, and after I corrected the problem, added it back in this way when I decided I like the look with substrate better.

I'm going back to GFO and I'm going to try Vodka for a while before I make further decisions.

FWIW, I'd continue with the AlgaeFix for now.

I realize you're seeing no results, but it does take a while to see result sometimes, although my personal results were immediate.

Honestly, I've done a 100% WC (in a smaller 30g) and saw no reduction in in a sever HA outbreak.

But every tank is different, and hope does spring eternal!

:)

Did you reduce the introduction of nutrients after the water change? Did you run any asorbing media to take up the possible leaching phosphates? A water change alone would probably not rid the system of hair algae.

I'm sorry,

I'm on my pc at work, and for some reason, no icons appear in the forms.

the "Quote" Button gone, the > button is gone from the "recent posts" (the button that allows you to skip to the last post)

Anyway, I couldn't quote the post I was replying to, so I decided to change the font.... I didn't realize it was that BIG a change.

LOL, I guess you ARE becoming a Hair Algae Ninja now... It was predestined!

I would say hit it on multiple fronts: 2 days with no light at all, cover the tank to keep it completely dark. That will weaken the algae then hit it with some chemical treatment and tech M. Also Chemipure Elite works well for me and they make huge bags now for larger tanks.

and go with 10 doses of algaefix before you give that up....

then, you can try tech-m.....

(or before)

It doesn't just happen is my point. Good or bad tank, The post above where you said you did a 100% water change in a 30 gallon and seen no change in the hair algae was said as if you expected that to do it. I apologize for the follow up questions as I assumed that was what you were relaing on to the OP that a water change would not help. My bad.

Again, sorry if anyone thought I was yelling......

I also tend to type more hurriedly/hastily at work (providing less information) as to keep anyone from seeing what I'm doing as they pass by my desk. (I have nosey neighbors)

My best two suggestions are

1. 3-4 days of no light. Cover the tank with blankets and turn off the lights. I did this and it worked pretty well.

2. algea scrubber. If it grows on a scrubber it cant grow in the tank...
