An adjunct to the other "How to get rid of palys" thread, I've got to get rid of some prolific GSP. My zoas, teal payls and GSP are having a battle royal for dominance, and my zoas are losing.

Not the desired outcome.

The gsp was one of the first corals i bought when i set up my tank nearly two years ago. It's grown from a quarter sized frag to about a square foot. I've sold off most it, but these rocks are load bearing and cannot be moved without tearing down my whole aquascape. Anyone have any ideas?

frogspawn kills gsp..or at least keeps it in check ..frogspawn barrier maybe?...its at least easier to frag

GSP needs to be kept either on its own rock island or in a place where the only way it can grow is up into the shade(I had mine under a ledge)

you can kill it with kalk paste and a stiff tooth brush.

Hmmm. I dont know if the rock structure is secure enough to sustain scrubbing, but I can investigate when I get home.

What else is there that's stiff enough to scrub effectively, but yet aquarium safe? I wonder if steel (like steel wool or a bristle brush) can be used for short duration?

Sometimes it's fairly to pull up by the mat. Would be cool to salvage it instead of killing it.

I use one of those bent-handled kitchen brushes for general tank cleaning. The one I am thinking of is about 8' long with a gray and white handle. The bristles are pretty firm and might be a good tool for GSP removal.

If you can remove the gsp by pulling up the mat, I will gladly take some off your hand for my classroom tanks.

Cover it in kalk paste, wait 30 min then scrub. It will come right off.

its funny you mention that because i have 2 frogspawns right to a huge gsp colony that keeps it from spreading too much

If i can remove it without destroying it, i'll post it here.

What I dont understand is, it's available any at LFS. Why would someone drive an hour to come get a $5 frag?

cuz we are assuming your frag would be like a $20 softball size piece! which is a good price compared to what it would sell for at an LFS...

but yea, you are close to me. so if u ever have a deal like that, let me know.

I might take you up on that.

By which method? The rock(s) absolutely cannot be moved.

Sodium hydroxide will kill it no problem and you don't have to worry about nuking your tank with a ph swing (Kalk could)
