I have seen few mushrooms with small tenticles, but the arrangement still looks like a plate coral. Could you post a pic of you feeding it?

He said it closed up, plates don't do that.

Nems reproduce by splitting and paly's by budding right? So in theory If I wait for it too reproduce once, I should have a better idea of what it is before roasting it.

You know, you might be right with some type of mushroom.

There are some odd ones out there. That would explain the spread as well being a kinda nem themselves. Also the "closing up" when fed. Still want to get a feeding pic.

I will try a feeding pic tomorrow when the lights are on. The spacing on the tentacles just does not look right for a nem. I have never seen one like that and can't find any images on the web that match. Even Bubbles that have a lot of tentacles still have the symmetrical circular disc in the center.

Will be looking for the pic. My yumas and shrooms close up when they recieve frozen foods. I have seen shrooms with that pattern, but it is the picture perfect look of a plate minus the closing. Can't wait for the pic.

experiment done, I poked it with my tongs a couple times. Tentacles withdrew stright down into the fleshy area but it did not fold up and close like it did during feeding.

Just a couple of different photos of Majanos.

And you may have just changed my mind. Thing is I would probably pay for a frag of 3 and 4 and probably passed the fifth as a week duncan

A plate DOES NOT have the ability to close, ever. So if it did close during feeding, it can't be a plate. Are you sure it didn't swell to engulf the food. That's what plates do.

lights have been out for an hour and a half and this is what it looks like from the side

It looks like it has a stalk. Does it feel like it has a skeleton when you touch it? Is it hard, or soft?

I think it might be a plate? Either way I might just start the first Majajno only tank, or maybe a Majano and Aptasia tank. Hmmmm the battle begins.

It feels soft under the tongs, but it did not give as much as I expected it too. And Chris, I saw those pics. The only problem with the majano theory is i have yet to see one with tentacles to the center, like every other nem i have seen, they have a fairly large tentacle free disc in the center.

I would like to see a pic after the lights have been on for awhile to also see if it is popping those zoanthids around it an keeping them closed and thinned out compared to the rest of the zo patch

you might have me there. I only saw the after effect from eating not the process. It very well could have swollen up around the food instead of closing over it. Just looked like a closed paly.
