is this reef safe?

Hmmm well what I was reading in some threads of other reef clubs is that the aquarium silicone had a diff curing agent than the acetic acid. That was the differance from the household ones. I didn't read all that crap I posted I saw where it listed the ingrediants and let it ride.

Have you come across that info?

For aquariums acetic acids is the safest thing, it breaks down to Carbon, Oxygen and Hydrogen, which in turn reacts with water to regular salt, carbon and oxygen.
I'd be suprised if they use another agent - since it really doesn't get safer than this.
Anything with Chloride groups would be much unsafer - potentially forming some toxic compounds in water.

But then again - fully cured the agent should play no role as pure silicone is completely inert.

Hmmm good info, I also found that the differance between GE 1 vs GE 2 is the curing agent. Thats it. The 2 doesnt use the acetic acid the number 1 does.

Edit: If it were me I would be worried like you stated robb if I had to repair something with water in it or had to be used in a hurry uncured. Like you said cured is cured and as long is there is no anti fungal/mildew it should be safe.

Edit: now Robb to talk about the bonding strength. Whats the differance there. What makes one stronger than the other.

Just IMO,
Since after curing they are the same, I say no difference in bonding strength.

Like Dakota said why not just spend 8 bucks and get aquarium sealeant. Hassle free then.
