Ok. did some research.. these are my choices:

ebay - 55x3w (ran at 2w) for 120w for $160 shipped

Lil rob - same but with uv chips and more par? ~$200 (i think)

eshine (these have lenses? others do not?)
60W cree is 20leds at 3w for $158
48x3w , ran at 2w for 100W, Bridgelux leds = $128
same as above with crees = $175

To start, it would just be for my son's tank or maybe frag tank..

what do u think?

I researched this for awhile. I wasn't impressed with the eShine units too much. The light spread didn't look right. I bought LilRobb's model and am happy with them.

I did a lot of research too and was seconds away from buying the same unit on eBay, but after talking to LilRobb I have decided to go with his LED's. I did not want to have to worry about supplementing with UV's later on down the road so that was my determining factor.

I'd also say to take a look at the units at Reeffiltration.com I just bought 2 of the 200W units myself. I researched all the LEDs for the last couple months and the reviews on TMC and Orphek were far and away the most consistently positive of the big name brands. Then I heard about the reeffiltration units and researched them. There were only about 10 reviews I found but they were all positive and there were posts showing the PAR on these.....and the 120W units. I couldn't be more impressed with my units. Very well constructed. Luke at reeffiltration has been in the LED game since 2008. He has these units custom made from China........as they all do. Regardless of where "assembled" the LEDs are from China. Anyway, just thought you might want to take a look. He's in Indy and handles any problems himself.
