I try to support reef stores when possible. Its funny when you have a 40 dollar fish that dies the next day and with no pics or the fish in a bag....theres no recourse or any offer whatsoever of a discount to purchase another. I know I know.....rules are rules and if "any exceptions are made then it becomes a problem because everyone else will want that". But let's be real here....there are always exceptions. When you see the tank and health of other fish in it...its pretty obvious the tank wasn't the issue and im no rookie reefer. Again..I totally understand that a standing rule is applied for the store. It just makes me want to buy the same things elsewhere for much cheaper and not worry about supporting this one place. I make it a point to spend money everytime to support the store. No information was asked about acclimating....salinity...or anything..just shut down with no fish in bag nor pic. It was late when I got home the next day, saw it, tossed it out. This isnt to argue right or wrong...really do understand the policy and reasons for it. I guess the point is..if its not even worth asking any questions to make sure im not FOS....why is it even worth my effort to support. I will say..there are a couple AWESOME lfs I wish I was closer to.

Agreed. I just lost a nice looking scribbled anthias after 3 days because it never ventured out of the corner of the tank and subsequently appears to have starved to death. It makes it hard to take a chance and buy new fish when 50% die within the first few days or weeks.

Sorry, not fully understanding what happened in your post but there are definitely good and bad LFS. I don’t waste my time to give all stores a chance anymore. I have my 1-2 good store and stick to them. Unfortunately you’re far from the great stores you know but at the end of the day save the headache and the money and make the drive.

I’m really sorry to hear about your experience. That’s genuinely frustrating, especially when you go out of your way to support a LFS. It’s completely understandable to feel disappointed when you don’t get clear communication or a chance to discuss what happened with livestock that didn’t make it. Feeling like you can’t even ask questions or get some follow-up only makes it harder to trust that kind of interaction in the future. I know that I would certainly want to engage, offer to do water testing, etc while trying to find the cause. While I don't think anyone can guarantee livestock's livelihood for a long period of time, there should be a fundamental line somewhere of a day to a few days at least IMO. What to do about it after it happens is key to not only your success in the hobby, but the LFS as well IMO.

I hope you run into better experiences in the future, and finding places that make you feel supported.

Had we had a conversation it would have been apparent that the fish just died and im not trying to "pull one over". Be that as it may..its all good. Far from a rookie reefer and the short term gain on the profit for a $40 fish with no recourse results in a long term loss. No biggie...its just business. But..bc no questions or anything were asked...no way to know im not just a novice.

All it would take is one picture of your system and anyone with half a brain could figure out it wasn’t anything you did. Tough loss on the fish, bigger loss on their end though by losing a customer over something like this.

Lol.
I was conflicted in even posting anything because it seems like some sort of self entitlement. To Hunna..I forced a pic of my tank and he said ...yeah..nice tank. To reiterate, nobody was rude...rules are rules..understandable. My deal is, when anyone buys anything from me and something happens....lets try to get some resolution on it. If we really are just a gear in the machine there, thats fine, I know where to stand on expectation. This was more a straw that brike thr csmels back btw...i understand people have off days. On the flip side...shout out to the Local fish/reef stores who treat each custie like more than a number.
