Longhorn Cowfish? Anyone kept one?

I'd like some input from someone who has sucessfully kept one, either in a reef or a fowlr. Are they hard to keep? Hardiness?

I am really just looking for people who have kept them, I have done a lot of reading across RC as well as whatever info I could find in a google search as well as emailing back and forth with Jim Stine (LA fishguy) since has multiple strung across clients tanks.

I did. They are cool until they get big and try to bite you every time your hand is in the tank. And surprisely there skeletal jaws kinda hurt. I got rid of mine bc he was starting to bully others.

Fowlr. But I am telling you, his bite can do some damage when he is bigger. Not like a fish just nipping.

I am still just toying with the idea. I want something with a awesome personality that is colorful and odd ball. I have read that cowfish just about fit the bill minus they may pick at sps and eat tubeworms. My tank is only LPS/Softie and I do not plan on adding SPS so we'll see..

I feel ya. I always wanted one too. But started to regret it when he would never leave my hand alone.

The good news is that if you decide to try it, he is easy to catch if u want him out. U can just grab him with your hands. But also, he will get big fast. Reminds me of a puffer.

It's strange that you say it started to be a bully as all the sites like liveaquaria and blue zoo say that it's usually the bullied fish. I did read that it's bite can hurt. Did you get yours locally? I talked to one LFS about getting one for me and they said it shouldn't be a problem but did say they are hard to keep.

Well, I didn't have him with triggers or anything.

I got him at nemo's on 78. Great price on them as always. He got me a large one bc I did not want a small one. The bigger they are, the cooler they look to me.

Thanks for your input. I am still on the fence. I am gonna talk to Rit and see what size he can get. I want a small one, around .75-1.5 in if that's not possible locally I am gonna wait until LA gets them in stock again.

I have always worrie about fish that can nuke a tank but cows are cool fish
