Looking for help with 500 gallon system

Well.... I've followed the advice of many of you and have slowed it down a bit. I added another large CUC to take some of the hair algae, along with decreasing light periods.

Also, I thought the BRS gfo and carbon reactors were good for this size tank. Apparently not. I ordered very large reactors from avist and will add them in - running GfO and carbon.

I sent some water off to aqua medic for testing. No results yet.

I have been talked off the ledge for now as far as breaking it all down and starting over.

I'm in the caymans for a couple of days enjoying scuba over a huge, I mean HUGE, aquarium 😛

Just wish I could bring some of this home with me!!

Looking forward to posting some pics of a healthy tank.

No good. Trying to figure out why even my turbo snails are dying in one day. I think there is def some sort of contaminate I can't measure. Meeting with Pure Reef Wednesday. Very very frustrated.

let me know how the meet with pure reef goes today.i think we all would like to here some good news

Check, double check and then check again that you don't have hardware leeching metal into your system somewhere (any and every pump in the system is a potential source, chiller, etc).

Do you know if your source water has chloramines? Does your Rodi have a chloramine filter?

Any residue inside storage water containers/other that might be leeching something bad into the system?

Have you checked for stray voltage?

What is alive and doing well? Invertebrates?

I think It's solved!!!

See my post "Snail Tales" in the reef discussion forum.

Bad Apex salinity probe and refractometer calibration.

Good grief ....Bravo to Jorge at Pure Reef!!

Wow, who doesn't test their salinity.... Hard to feel bad for a mess up like that.

I did test it - over and over. Just had a bad probe and made an error with the refractometer.

Not asking you to feel bad. But, do hope you find some manners.

The reason we are here is to support one another. It is fine to have different perspectives but it is not right to throw people under the bus. This hobby is great because we are passionate about corals, fish, etc. but more importantly, we are passionate about people. I don't usually post much, but my son, LSUfishfan does. You all on this forum have impacted my son in a very positive way and I thank you. It is a blessing to know that there is always someone here that cares.

Michael, would love to see your system when I'm out your way. It was worth the drive to Pure Reef. Jorge, Angela and Matt and the rest of the crew are awesome! Good to hear you're back on track to solving the current issue.

Very well stated Chung, Its perfectly fine to call someone out but not to be condescending and rude in the process.

Michael Grady your set up looks sweet, glad to heard you found the issue. Wish I had the room for something similar...more pictures please!

Luke is a great kid! You have done an amazing job raising him!

This hobby has provided a life long passion that we both love spending time together on. I am amazed with everything he has learned from everyone on this forum.

Thank you for your encouragement.
