Hello All

Tonight at around 11pm I witnessed my red acan release two white-ish tiny balls (around the size of an eraser tip). I was able to catch the balls in a net; however, they quickly dissolved into even smaller balls (micro bubble size). After doing some reading on the internet, I have discovered that my acan has just released eggs and sperm at the same time.

Has anyone here ever seen this happen before? If so, has anyone ever seen new baby acans grow in other parts of the tank?

I found the information about the breeding at the following website...

FYI – if anyone would like to get their acan in the mood, they seem to like watching South Park in the moonlight. J

I didn't get a chance to take any pictures because it happened very quickly, plus I only had the moonlights which don't offer much light.

I just happened to look at the tank and noticed that the center of a few acan heads where sticking out, then I noticed the tiny ball pop out. I quickly grabbed a net and pulled it to the top of the tank. I let the ball sit at the top of the tank while I tried to look it up on the internet. When I went back, the ball had dissolved and I had a lot of tiny little particles floating around my tank.

It was really cool to see, and if I ever see it happen again I will grab the camera for sure.

Sounds good. Speaking of acan, I was interested in getting one. Any tips on how to care for them?

Acan care is pretty simple medium/ lower light lower flow. They look the best user blue light IMO.
