My kitchen tanks

Also, ordered 5 red mangrove pods for the qt tank and got way too many. Maybe someone wants a couple of them who is going to the meeting? 09EFFF7D-2359-4EA4-994C-9ADE1F3BA0D2.jpeg

I've seen you reference macro and now the mangroves in the QT. I'm a bit confused about this. I can't see you returning water from the QT to your main system so I'm kinda wondering why those would need to be added to the QT.

As all our fish are healthy right now, and we don’t plan to add anything but inverts and snails and replacement CUC - which we quarantine first- , we took this opportunity to ‘decorate‘ the QT tank and try out some macro algae and to grow a mangrove for fun. We are keeping the qt tank up and running and trying to make it more naturally self sustaining as I am a lazy reefer. The QT is a 55 gallon tank and don’t want to take it down just in case and want it ready if needed. I can easily remove the plant/macro if we have to treat a patient. The plant life is for fun and totally not needed for the QT system.

We have a very healthy refugium attached to the main system, so when we harvest macro, we have been putting some of in the QT with the mollies that are keeping the tank cycled and in shape. The mollies seem to enjoy the macro. As for the mangrove seeds, always wanted to try to grow a tree- and the HOB filter and qt tank are the perfect test ground to try and get the mangrove to grow big enough to move to the frag tank later.

We would never add the water from QT into the main system, although we have dumped system water into the QT to keep the bacteria alive when nothing was in the qt tank.

When I do water changes I always drain about half out of the coral QT and replace it with water from the system.

I'm interested to see how the QT macro display progresses. Are you planning on continuing to add system water to it very frequently?

I think I might set up an automatic water changer- I have an auto aqua as well as an extra dos apex unit. So might automate small system water additions and schedule larger changes in the future. I’m just trying to figure it out now. But yes, going to keep using system water to replenish bacT.

Another option that might be less costly is to add nutrients to it artificially via fertilizer.

I would like a mangrove as well if there is anymore. I can pick up later on this afternoon? Pm me.

Sorry - just saw this. Yes I have an extra one. Maybe you can pick up this week, or I can bring to meeting next weekend.

And in our QT, our salt water sail fin mollies just had a second batch of babies, last batch one survived. And this batch looks like maybe two might possibly survive. The parents are doing a nice job keeping the qt tank in shape. F951A5C5-23EF-4AFB-A542-C2AFE30BB025.jpeg7656E898-9615-4C3A-95DC-3C697501EC76.jpeg

Clarisea SK5000 in place and pulling particulate like a champ. Only going to run during the day so as not to strip all the nutrients out. Wondering if I should also skip the filter floss?
