i know im going to have to sand this slick finish to get paint to stick. after sanding whats the smoothest way to get the stand painted.not sure what kind of paint .im going with a flat black.has any one ever used high grade spray paint ? i just dont want to see brush marks.what kind of primer with paint. i would ask the people at lowes but thats not always good advise

When I got this tank I touched it up with some Fusion and it worked fine.. Don't know about a complete paint job with it but it might work Mark.. If ya need any help just give me a ring..

If it were me I would stip it all the way down so that I was starting fresh - and would be tempted to use an oil based paint and have something besides a flat finish so that cleanin would be easy as blu devil said

im really just trying to make the stand i have not really flat. just sei gloos type paint. kind of the black that was on my solana .

Benjamin Moore makes a very good black paint called Ironclad Black. Sanding in between coats goes a long way towards giving a great finish.

It depends on how much money you want to spend and the qaulity of finish you desire. To gain a professional finish you might want to go with lacquer based product. You would first sand the existing finish down with 180 grit apply a coat of vinyl sealer tinted black then sand with 220 grit another coat of vinyl sealer tinted black then sand with 220 grit then 3 coats of precatylized lacquer with a 600 grit sanding between the coats. at least $100 in materials. If you want a soso finish then scuff the stand with a course scuff pad then apply a coat of Kilz type primer sealer that has been tinted black, sand with a 220 grit pad and then apply a couple coats of satin black paint. the ben moore paint mentioned above is a good paint . You can also use some penetrol in the paint to help with the brush marks. Be careful about applying stains on top of the existing finish if you cannot identify what type it is, you may encounter adhesion problems! Also spraying will almost always give a smoother finish.

Hey, BTW.. That wood isn't stained.. if its the one you bought from me. those are natural wood colors. I just polyd the finnish on.

(not sure if that helps any)
