I'm sure it will go on special from time to time, that's how many of us (myself included) can offer the reef salt and other brands at substantially less than cost, but the frequency and discount offered will remain to be seen.

I'm not sure what you mean by the above, but I was referring to the physical size of the salt amount. 4000 L of salt mix has to equal 300 or more pounds.

You're right, Dave, it weighs about 300 lbs. I haven't seen the barrel, but I spoke with someone at Seachem about them a week or so ago. Definitely a challenge to move.

The bucket will mix 225 gallons of saltwater at 35ppt (which converts to about 1.026). If running a lower salinity, you will get more make-up water than this.

The 4000L drums are not solely for store use, but I imagine that stores will be more likely to buy something of this caliber. They weigh about 300 lbs each and do come is a plastic drum.

Figure it costs $.35 a gallon to make Reef Salt at 1.026, as long as it costs less than $80 a bucket for the Aquavitro, it will be a better deal.

Just found out from my contact with Seachem that Salinity will only be offered in the 5 gallon pail and the large drum size. Seachem has no current plans to offer smaller package sizes of this product.

If some of us with with smaller systems are wanting to try it, we might consider a group of us purchasing a pail and dividing it up. I know personally I only use 2 1/2 cups a salt every two weeks, and just don't want to have to invest in, and then store, a whole pail of salt for a year or more.

If anyone would be interested in this idea once Salinity debuts (hopefully) in January, please let me know.

Jenn, are you for sure that you can sell this starting on the 10th? I'm holding off on doing a water change because I dont want to buy another bucket of Reef Crystals and end up with the brown sludge again!

I'll contact my folks at Seachem. My local distributor is offering it in their current sale flyer, and I received order info from Seachem last week.

I'm sure Seachem will see this update to this thread too, so hopefully they will chime in.

I was told that our local distributor will be the first to receive it, but I'll let you know what I learn.
