New Elos system mini owner; first timer!

Harleyguy;216594 wrote: very nice... is there room in the stand for a Ca reactor if you decided to add one later?? Also I noticed that your temp was 80.7... does the tank run worm or is that what you have your heater set at? The reason I ask is I would have thought that with LEDs and low power use the Elos has the temp would have been lower... or is your room worm? Can we get a picture of the tank with just the moon light on? I'm thinking of adding one of those lights to my ESM. Aslo let me know when you want to add something else, I might be able to come up with a frag or two for the new guy ;)
Thanks. The tank stays between 79-81.5 degrees. The light has been running for 12hrs (8:30am-8:30pm) but I have turned it back to 7hrs as of today. The room the tank sits in stays right around 78 degrees as it gets the sun all day and has a ton of windows in the room. I dont even have a heater on probably wont need that until winter. I have turned the LED off one time for over 24hrs and the temp only dropped .5 degrees. You can hold your hand right under the light and not get burned at all!!

I will get a picture with just the moon light as well not sure how well it will turn out but I will try.

Thanks for the offer on the frags as well :D

I went to EA today and had them test my Mg levels and they got 1600 instead of the reading of over 1900 I had been getting. I will test again tonight to see if I get the same.

I also met Doug, but I cannot remember your lastname. Was a pleasure meeting you.

Here are some more updated pictures:

That Doug would be me. Nice to met you as well. Can't wait for you to get some corals in that tank!

Let us know what you get on the Mg test.

I just test my Mg levels and they are over 1900. This kit must be off; I will talk to Chris and bring my Mg kit by his place next week so he can use the kit to see if I am an idiot or not.

My other results are below:
Temp - 81.2
SG - 1.025
pH - 8.3
Nitrite - .01/.02
Nitrate - 5
Amonia - .05/.5
Ca - 350 (just dosed after this test)
Mg - 1600
Kh - 9.5 (19 drops to turn to a yellow color, according the Elos kit its .5 per drop)

I know the Kh is high just need to figure out exactly how bad this is at this time.

My amonia is up for the first time as well.

I did clean my tank glass about 2hrs before my test and there was alot of alage on it and my cleaner shrimp also molted so could that have an affect on my high amonia readings?

My Elos card for kH says 1 drop = 1 degree of kH. and it usually only takes about 8 or 9 drops to change colors. Maybe the new tests are different. Hmmm... need to get over to Chris' and see what is the deal.

Mine is the KH expert line test. The card says 1 drop = .5KH. I wonder if there is a regular line and its different then the expert line??

I just read the paper instructions and they say 1 drop = 1degree of hardness which means 20 drops would we 20!! Now I am really confused since the card says one thing and the paper instructions say another. I will talk to chris as well.

I just talked to Chris from EA via email and he said my card is right and the paper instructions are in correct.

Doug - yep it appears your kit is older and I have the updated version since I just bought it.

Just did a water change today and just tested the water a few minutes ago.
Nitrites - 0
Nitrates - 0
Amonia - 0
Ca - 400
Everything else was the same.

Your lighting looks a little yellow to me :lol2: J/K . Sorry I was reading the thread on LED's on NR what a bunch of morons. Everybody is an expert over there LOL.

Next time test your top off/make up water to see what it reades before you do a water change. Or just go ahead and make up some water as it will be okay for some time as long as you have pump in the container and a cover.

LOL, yea I know. Its so stupid with this whole LED thing; I was LMAO saying it look yellow to me. Chris has seen the lighting and knows the specs as well and its certainly NOT yellow :)

Dough - I had tested my makeup water the other day and it tested good including Mg which was 1250.

Yea, sounds like you got the new one. Mine is from about 6 months ago. I think Chris still had the old ones then. Good info. Thanks! Sounds like the new one is even MORE precise then the old. Leave it to Elos to perfect something that is already...... well perfect. :lol2:

My new addition to my tank today a Torch Coral!!
My Mg kit reagent was bad that is what was messing up my readings. Got the new bottle "A" and all is great. My Mg levels are 1400.

Wow, me and my buddy have been talking about that for like a month now...Have you ever seen anyone do that in their tank? I think it would look so sweet.

Yeah, it was used in the aquascaping video that was posted like a month ago. The Elos catalog has the same idea in it with freshwater. I think it would look really nice. I've put my gsp in the little path down the center of my rockwork and am trying to get it to grow, but it's not staying put, it keeps floating away.
