Are you mixing your whole batch of salt in the quart of hot water (for whatever amount of water you're going to do the water change with)?

If so, you're going to precipitate out all of the calcium from the mixture. You want to add salt to water, not water to salt.

Sarahh it's great to have you on the ARC site! You were asking questions about lights-I have 5 tanks with T-5's and I have been able to grow anything-Acros, Acans, Chalices, Montiporas, Softies, Zoas. I also have 2 tanks with Compact Floresents bulbs-I have had to stick with Candycane, Mushrooms, Xenya, Large Polyp Zoas rocks. If you are uncertain as to what you can grow you are welcome to come to my house and see what I have under different lights. I will give you some frags (that can grow in you tank now)for making the trip, I know I'm not real close to you. Just pm me if you would like to come over. Holley

Raz i've been meaning to ask what kind of t-5 are u using over your 40g breeder tank

36" Current Nova Extreme Pro-6 bulbs, I switched out the bulbs for Giesemann &ATI Put one of each current in other fixtures to save money. Holley

hey there guys, i have a bunch of coral skeletons that were given to me by a guy who used to have them alive, but took them out of the tank either before or after they died (several of each i believe)
can i add them to the tank? should i bleach them and then soak them? if so, what kind of ratio of bleach / water? and should i soak them in RO water with prime?

oh also, a really silly question before i set up a sump.. i have a UV steriliser, a RO/DI unit, parts to a protein skimmer, PLENTY of dead coral (see above), a sump/fuge combo 55 (yes, overkill for a 40, but we plan to upsize).. am i missing anything
