I'm about to do my scheduled wc this afternoon and was wondering if I could just use the disgarded water for my QT setup. If so should I just use a portion of it or all. My QT is 10 gal.
I would leave it there until you're about to use the QT then do a quick water change and transfer the matrix, don't know if 2 weeks is enough to "season" it
I agree with misu however, if your immediate concern is QT for the frags you get on Sat. I would imagine the matrix is seasoned enough. I would just do frequent testing of the water and frequent water changes while they are in the QT. If it were fish you were putting in the QT then the matrix is probably not ready yet.
The matrix can be put back in the sump and reused time and again as long as you do not medicate anything while it is in the QT. If you medicate, toss the matrix when you are done.
Be careful with a new system for your corals. Any ammonia spike will affect your corals more so than it would fish. When thet are stressed they may produce some slime/mucus that can cause an ammonia spike if the system is not mature enough to process.
