in a moment of poor judgement, I cut some palys without gloves and did not thoroughly wash my hands. Sometime in the night while sleeping i rubbed my eye. I woke up with my eye feeling like it was on fire. I went to my doctor and she said I would fully recover but i did some damage. My cornea instead of looking smooth as glass looked like sandpaper. It felt like it too. Vision in that eye was totally blurry. I could not read the top letter on the eye chart. I still have some pain but my vision has recovered. I do have a safety protocol, but I found myself in an unexpected situation and just took the easy route and I paid a harsh price. Please be careful.

Yeah me neither. I was actually a few months away from ordering the Blue Death Paly’s. Those would have blinded my eye. My magic carpet mushroom was a victim. That hurt.
How are you doing these days?
my outlook on life has changed. I keep one eye open now.

I forget who it was but another member got this very badly. I don't recall if he's made a full recovery or not.

Out of an abundance of caution I won't keep these in my tank ever again.
It is no joke; extreme pain on the eye ball and eye lids. Two distinct pains. From Nirvana’s by the way. I have some palys that i know are worse and they have got to go.

In our thoughts. Hopefully you regain full vision.

Damn it man. Hell of a reminder. I'm trying to get rid of some green ones right now. Easy to get complacent about them. Glad you are more or less alright.

Wow. I spent the last day and a half tearing apart my scape and chisling off palys. I’m left with 2 rocks that have purple monsters. 1 is isolated. I might tackle the other rock in a few days or I might leave them. I’m just glad the Nirvana’s and a few others are gone. I think I lost about 5lbs of rock in the process but all in all things look better and I have an idea on how to complete my scape for my torch garden. I’ll post some pics when my lights come up

@wantsummora acropora , I am glad that you have recovered so quickly. Please be careful everyone and wear appropriate PPE, mainly gloves and safety glasses at a minimum. Also, my advice - do your own research before adding these to your tank, not all palys / zoanthids are toxic, but treat them as if all are anyway to stay safe.

Thank you. I’m still recovering. My sight has recovered 7 levels with 4 to go before I’m back to my normal. I had my own positive experience with palys and would not discourage anyone from having theirs but, you really have to be prepared to make a sacrifice if you make a mistake. That toxin did some horrible things to my eye ball.
