Questions about reef tank

I was gonna ask who stocked Snake Oil, but I deleted it... wanted somebody else to be first. Thanks Darth!

i would like to see pics of your dad's working no waterchange tank and what is the name of this cem. it is just hard to beleave.

well being a doctor that would typically make him a chemistry major... I will ask him what the chemical is... He typically has someone come into his office to do whatever needs to be done... I have someone as well tend to my tank.. Its better that way because you actually get to enjoy the "beauty" aspect of the tank rather than having to get dirty lol... But I am a girl so I typically dont get very dirty anyway!

Awesome so is there anyone in the dalton area to do this??? I was looking for a used tank but designing one would be great... Would it be possible to design a bow front tank that is around 150 gallons or more? I love the design of the bow front but havent come across any that are over 100 gallons... And as I stated someone else cares for his tank so they may do water changes... Maybe its an additive as another member stated to elongate the necessity of each water change... And wow there are many members who love to jump on someone if it may be wrong... I mean aren't we all in the same boat as enjoying the beauty that an aquarium provides? I have never seen so many critics in my life lol!

No jumping on anyone here,
just improper care (and that's what it sounded like) drives many reef enthusiasts up the wall.
We're all here to learn and enjoy the hobby - take it with a grain of salt, I promise we're all nice guys...

Yes every life is a cherished one including my fish... And I love the hobby very much... I am just not looking to spend more than 10,000 for the setup... I can get any coral I want from a friend for 20 bucks... And they are pretty nice size too! About the size of a softball...

Like I said I want everything that can be automated to be automated... I have a space that over 8 feet long in my dining room so any recommendations on what I should, should not have?

And I am 32 years old and own my own business.... For those of you who must know :)

And is there a site on this water changing machine? And is it large and bulky?? Dont really want something in the dining room that is big and ugly!

If you are going to have a large tank in your dining room there are only two practical ways to do it.

One is an "equipment room" on the other side of the wall the tank is on
The other is an "equipment room" in the basement underneath with plumbing through the floor.
You could put much of the supporting equipment in the stand underneath, but you'll also need a large topoff water container plumbed to the system's ATO, and a large container of salt water for water changes... unless you run "The Chemical". (Yes, I'm just ribbing you).

If you have a reef tank that large, though, you are going to frankly need far more room for equipment than the stand can provide.

A denitrator is not worth the money. Pretty much just doses vodka for you.
Being honest will help us help you more

I am talking to a guy now with a 125 gallon setup... I suppose I could build a larger cabinet or "stand" to house certain items... Or since I do have 8 feet, take the other area that is left and build another cabinet to house other equipment... And the house is on a slab so no basement... And with a large setup it would probably fall through the floor anyway!!! And definitely no utility closet close by... I am tall so I suppose I could make the cabinet substantially taller for a higher viewing area and more storage capacity.. Which wouldn't be a problem because my neighbor builds cabinets for a living...

A longer and or deeper tank is more important than taller. A tall stand is great, but the tank being taller gives you limitations. Also cheaper on lighting if you don't go for a tall tank. Tall stand however would increase the possibilties for equipment being kept out of sight

You can do it with an oversized cabinet, but it won't be ideal IMO... you'll have to compromise on the size of several items (sump, skimmer, ATO reservior) to make it all fit. Not that you can't use adequate stuff, but a budget like the one you stated should build a top shelf system, and you don't have the room to go top shelf in a stand in my opinion.

And there is no way you'll be able to automate water changes given what you've said.

Don't get me wrong, you can get the necessary equipment in there to run a tank that size, but I'm going off of your intention to automate everything. You're still gonna be toting buckets!

Thats what I am thinking... Make the stand 50 inches tall so the tank is viewing level... Tank is 24 inches high, then the canopy... Well at least I have 10 foot ceilings lol!

I currently have plastic totes 30 gallons... I have an empty one sitting close by and when they do maintenance they suck existing water from the top of the tank into the empty container... Then put the pump into the new water to pump it into the aquarium... Makes water changes much easier!!!! Then take the old water and place the pump inside then the nozzle outside to drain... No Lifting!!!!
