Reef Octo 110 recirc Mods

So I'm about to add about 50ish gallons to my 85ish gallon system and and will be passed my 110's recommended limit buy only 15ish gallons. Before I drop a couple hundred bucks on a new skimmer I am wondering if there are some mods I could to have it keep up with my system. I was thinking about upgrading the OTP from the 1000 to the 2000? Does anyone think this could work? Or what about even adding a second pump? Mo bubble mo better??

What will you be using the additional water volume for? If you're not going to be adding significantly more bioload, you should be ok. Unfortunately, the limiting factor with the 110 is the size of the neck. It can handle a little more air but not too much more. Going to a mesh wheel or adding fishing line to the stock needlewheel can help you get a bit more out of the skimmer.

I'm adding a rubbermade stock tank that will be frag tank as well as house a fish or 2. nothing major though.

That looks like somebody modded a skimmer with one of those pneumatic tube thingys at the bank drive-through.

Heh, that guys skimmer was crazy....talk about getting the most out of what you have. I'd say mesh the impeller....no more than two layers of mesh and bore out the inner volute slightly and see what numbers those get you....go at it slow, one mod at a time...that way you can see if these are working in your favor, or against you! Remember modding is a great thing to do, but it does come at a price, like too high of wattage increase for a pump, or too much air pull for your skimmer to handle.
