It's actually not that strange at all. It's a left handed way of supporting their vendors. It's done in many specialty industries to encourage people to buy from "Authorized Dealers".

I don't know for a fact this is the intent in this particular case but it's very common.

Very familiar with that tactic in the special millwork/stair industry. Most certainly strange in this instance since several online " Authorized Dealers " sell it with no mention of specialized instructions.
