Hi All:
I wanted to let everyone know that our Veterinarian at the Georgia Aquarium, Dr. Tonya Clauss, will be discussing fish diseases - how to identify them and how to treat them. The seminar is July 8th from 7-830pm. This is a lecture targeted for the home aquarist. I think this will be a very informative discussion and I am sure you will not want to miss it. There is a fee for the seminar. Please check out the link to read more about it and sign up. The lecture is workshop series "Got fish, now what?" I hope to see you there!

That is so awesome. Thanks for posting that up. On a Thursday too. Hmmmmmmm

The only one I see in the link is for this Saturday -

Have you ever dreamed of having your own aquarium but did not how or where to start? Well then, this is the workshop for you. We will be introducing participants to the joys of owning your own home aquarium with the help of a Georgia Aquarium biologist. You will learn how to choose which type of aquarium is best for you, how to set it up and what equipment you need. Participants will also have an opportunity to go behind the scenes of the Aquarium and see how our exhibits are designed.

Wish I could go to that one... to see what is being said etc.

I would be interested in the diseases one - for certain.

Do you have a link to more info?

Jenn

After Clicking on the above link and then clicking on "Got Fish, Now What?" link on the left side of the GAI website, it says

Georgia Aquarium veterinarian Dr. Tonya Clauss will lead the discussion and help you save your fish! "</span></span>

I think this will be a really great seminar. Unfortunately, the 101 class for today was canceled due to lack of interest. We may try to hold it again in Sept. I hope to see you all there on July 8th!

Fishwhisperer, can you clarify something? The cost has a cute little disclaimer saying 'admission not included in the price' - does this mean you need to ADDITIONALLY pay the aquarium admission to get in to this, or does this just mean you don't get a ticket to the aquarium, but may still attend the class?

Let me check into this for you and get back to you spacepony. I am in MI now and will not be back to work until Tuesday so it may not be until Tues. I'll find out and let you know though.

You only need to pay for the seminar if that is all you plan on going to. You do NOT need to pay admission to the aquarium just to attend the class. Hope that helps!

Sally, are volunteers able to attend without buying a seat? Or this a better question for Alex?

Update: This lecture was cancelled due to lack of interest. No one signed up :(. Just curious what your thoughts are on the lack of interest? Cost? Subject? Location? Date?

That's a shame. I'd have liked to go but the date/time wouldn't work for me. I think the subject is relevant, and a great learning opportunity. Hopefully this will be rescheduled - I know I'll make more of an effort to attend.

Jenn

I was definitely interested in going, but $60 for my wife and I to attend was steep....

I would have done it if the price of admission was included with that $30 however. It's hard to be there for a class without wanting to look at the fish!
