I've had this orange spotted goby for a couple of weeks now. Pistols just came in at Blue Planet. Brought shrimp home last night and they're already paired up with no effort! :yay:

Hard to get a pic 'cause I need to scrape the glass and the goby is more skiddish now that she has a boyfriend.

nice Jess, mine started for my frags I had on the SB, had to move them or he would started using them for their cave.

has it popped its claw any?

Mine did a lot yesterday but haven't seen or heard from him anymore.

Hard to say about the popping because the peacock mantis is only six feet away and is remodeling. He's moved yet again though. I only had some kenya tree on sand bed that I had thrown in there for another member. So I sunk a specimen cup and let it sit in that. Everything else should be safe. I may do it like the mantis and drop a couple of shells in there for it to play with.

Now I'm ##@#@#@#@@#@$%^&* - ING too! I made sure nothing was on the sand bed and he snuck up the rocks and grabbed some. Had a great mushroom tied onto a shell with some tulle and somehow he got the mushroom out and it's gone! He can't decide on a burrow either. Do these guys EVER settle down? For now I just moved everything higher. Other than a conch that I'll soon move out of there, it's just the goby and shrimp and a few snails.
Any other shrimp get along with these guys? Thought about some sexy shrimp if he wouldn't kill them.

haha that suxs, from what i have heard they don't stop, although mine has stayed in the same rock i place him in, he has opened and closed burrows all around the rock. got some great pics yesterday. needs to pic one and be done with it. :)

See how far up he's taken sand?

They love each other! I love how he keeps his antennae on his fishie.

Pretty cool Jess,

But I didnt know they could be as destructive. A mushroom was eaten? Seems like you think they will stop some of that behavior later. I'd like to know about this Pistol Shrimp/Goby relationship. Are there any www pages describing this a little?

Thx

I don't think he ate it, just got it loose somehow and now it's lost in the tank. I superglued everything down today.

Here's a start:

Thx for the link. Seems like a good way to stir a sand bed up. I did a little research too. The shrimp will go around into different spots. Their burrows may have several exits. It changes the burrows often looking for new food the info states. Looks to me like the Goby seeks out the shrimp from the tests done. The goby does a tail flick they say to warn the shrimp which has limited sight. The shrimp hides first. If the danger persists the Goby will join him.

A mature substrate would provide better food I suppose although I did see a youtube video on them being fed krill I think. Do you feed the shrimp? I LR scape which is not rested on firm base could be undermined by them easily I bet.

Im still considering what fish I will add to my micro tank. Never had a Goby/Shrimp combo and I was interested in that. Any dangers from other fish known?

You'd need a very reef safe fish, cause the pistols can be quite small. I've watched my pistol grab frozen mysis and blood worms.

That is so cute! Love at first sight!
Your sand looks very nice. It looks like fine baby powder.
