I have this skimmer.

What my question is I am about to change tanks (in the near future) and I want this skimmer to sit under the stand (out of site) But my sump is 18 inches tall. The return from the skimmer is not 18 inches tall, more like 9 inches tall, can I just add some pipe and make a 90 degree up and over the sump. ( I think it will have to come up about 8 inches) Or will this make the skimmer not work? Right now I have the skimmer sitting outside the stand (my old tank) on a small stand I built to make it high enough to go over the sump. (this makes it to tall for my new stand if I use the same set up as I have now) Right now from the floor to the top of the skimmer is 37 inches, If I set up the skimmer the way it is now the stand would have to have 42 inches clearance under the stand. And I think 42 inches under the stand would make the tank too tall.

Thank you Bruce

It's not going to work Bruce. If you do a 90 turn up then I will be like having your skimmer under water with the water line at whatever height that is. It will cause the water level in your skimmer to rise and no room for bubbles. Your best bet will be to drill a hole on the side of your sump with a bulk head in it and feed the return of your skimmer into there.

That is what coralvue has told me to do but (I think) there will be more water than 9 inches in the sump.? Or if the pumps go off will it not fill up the skimmer and over flow?

How much water is usually in your sump?

I have about 10" of water in my sump where my skimmer sits and about 6-8" of water where my return pump draws water back up to the DT. With my skimmer. Even the slightest movement in my water level will throw it off. You can always try what you have planned with your skimmer and see how it works out. If your old system is sill up. Just hook it up like you would with the new system and see how it reacts.
