Snails Disappeared.

Our snails seem to have disappeared. Or well I think the crabs took over and killed most of them. I need to restock our tank with snails. What kind do you have in your tanks? Pros and Cons of each? We have had several different kinds but the only one that I'm really oppose to is the Mexican Turbo Snails because they tend to knock over stuff.

I have actually have the best luck with Mexican Turbos. Those suckers will even eat coraline off the glass. I did have to firmly attach everything due to their weight and clumsiness.

what kind of crabs do you have? if you want snails, you may have to eliminate some types, or all... Ive never found a crab that didnt kill snails to some extent, and I know alot of reefers that dont use crabs either for that reason.

We just rearranged our rocks so we pulled out almost all of the crabs at that point. We are still pulling them out when we see them. The are now living in our fuge.

We've got a few Nassarius Snails but we could use some more. It's cool to watch them bubble up out of the sand at feeding time. Our sleeper goby keeps the sand bed pretty stirred up.

I would say Nassarius and Margarita snails for the basics. Perhaps a Black Turbo or two also. If your looking for a good snail for the sandbed that can hold it's own against the crabs, then I would suggest a Tiger Conch.

I added 2 cowries not long ago and I think they take the place of about 50 Nassarius. My sand stays pretty well stirred up just with them andyou can watch them moving around like groundhogs do underground.
