So tell me about Tangs!

I had the same question Bruce, but what I was gathering is that the symptoms should be exhibited at some point within 2 weeks. So if anything symptomatic came up, you'd QT and treat longer.

Pretty much what I was thinking also. But I could be wrong (and usually am).

Keep in mind QT isn't just for problematic pathogens. It's so the fish becomes comfortable and really settled in. Maybe even a little fat before he's thrown into a tank with competitors that may be a little hostile at first.

LOL.. any tang that goes in my tank will rule the roost. I've got this 5' 150 gallon tank with 4 SMALL fish in it right now.

It's actually kinda funny because they mostly all hang out in about 1 square foot of the tank. Except for the mandarin who is like honey-badger, he just don't care.

My guess is you feed in the same place every day and that same place is where they hang out?

What meds. Should I have in case there is an out break?

I am going to be getting a Powder Blue, and a C

I have a 6' 125 with only two fish. LOL One clown and one yellow choris wrasse. The clown hangs out near the back between the two rock structures for the most part but the wrasse is everywhere. They are going to be upset when the wide open spaces start to crowd up. LOL

Yes & no. I do feed heavier in that area, but also feed the other end because my one chromis & mandarin will go eat it.

I have the same problem, I'm trying to spread the food around in hopes they start to utilize the entire tank.

Crazy phone. .....

I have in my 150 now... a Yellow, Sailfin, and Blue Regal. I want to add to the list in the new tank. Chevron, Powder Blue, and a Blue Caribbean.
So what meds. Should I get in case the new ones come down with something?

I made a nori feeder that was a piece of light diffuser and acrylic that I kept a full sheet of nori sandwiched in between.I had two of these Nori feeders one for each end of the tank. My tangs loved to pick at it all day. I was pretty successful at keeping multiple(10) tangs in a 5' 156 gallon. I think the key is to keep them fed well and something to do like grazing on the nori all day.
I did run a 57 watt uv 24/7 but I cannot say if it helped with ich or not as I never had it with that particular system.

One thing that helps with every tang is having great water quality. A strong fish that eats well can fight off ich on its own. I don't think the ocean has most meds on hand.

I feel that a good diet and an established tank that has a high orp level is 90% of it. The best way is through a great oversized skimmer and uv.

diffuser like egg-crate? They were able to get into the holes to pick the Nori out? That's a pretty cool idea!

Yes eggcrate. I removed some of the crosses to create a few larger holes

Looks like a good idea to steal and present at the meeting this week for an easy $100!

+1

Hands down the best thing to do is feed.... A fat, healthy, vitamin enriched fish keeps the toilet away!
