So this is why I bought my Apex

Get to work and log into my apex and see my temp is 77.6 instead of my normal 78-79. Keep an eye on it and it continues to drop. At 77 I call my wife and have her run down stairs to the storage room and get a standby heater. Either my 50w isn't enough or it malfunctioned. She plugs the second 50w heater in, I configure the port, and temp starts to rise back up. I changed the range to be 77.5-78 so it doesn't change too much.

In a perfect world my dumb butt would have already had the heater plugged in and configured.....

I new to this hobby but have seen some threads on these. Just because I am curious, what price range to they run in?

No doubt. Who knows what the temp would have been when I got home. Or even worse it comes back up but damage is done and I don't know why.

I started with the Apex Jr for $150 and could do nearly everything I have setup now with just that. Hindsight being 20/20 it would have been more cost effective to just go with the full Apex. But also being new I didn't want to waste a whole bunch of money up front. The Apex Jr is probably like crack. You get a little taste and you start clamoring for more! What's nice is that now you don't even need a head unit.

The best part is exactly like I described. Complete monitoring AND configuration control from anywhere with an internet connection and a browser. There's also an iPhone app that lets you control outlets and monitor temp. Can't program outlets though.

Why do I have visions of some guy standing on a dark street corner with a trench coat open saying "Hey kid, you want an Apex Jr?" LOL Sounds like something worth having. Man this is an expensive "Sport". LOL

It is worth having and yes, as hobbies go, this one is rather expensive.

Love the alerts and being able to adjust everything remotely. Go ahead and purchase the extra EB8, your gonna need it for complete control.

I have an EB8 :). One of the reasons it would have been more cost effective to buy the Full version outright. Also have the VDM, PM1, and breakout box. Need to get a pH probe and the WXM.

Ain't automation grand! How about this one... checking my graphs the other day, I ran across this power graph for my frag tank EB8... Notice the bump on the right is the normal curve for my photo period (2 250W MH and some pumps), the one on the left is not quite right. Turns out one of my bulbs it intermittently going bad... I would have never noticed unless I was there on one of the days it was flickering... :)

Yep! Perfect example. Probably the best purchase I've made for my tank. Helps that I had a wonderful wife at home who was more than willing to help out too!

That's what we're here for! To justify each other's expenses !
