Well I’m upgrading from the 75. Here are a couple of pics. I got a couple of tanks and leak tested them. Got my order from glass holes and BRS. Just drilled the 120, was real easy. But it just felt wrong drilling a hole in a perfectly good water holding tank. Next to build the internal overflow and another sump and mixing station.

Sweet. Now I know who to call when I need to borrow a diamond hole saw. :-). Looking forward to watching this build.

come on down. got my new floats for mixing station and installed the TDS meter. 33 in an 0 out

Edit: this is the idea I had on the mixing station

I will be using acrylic for the overflow. I’m hoping the will work. It has about 2* angled (sloped) on the bottom to cut any hanging air bubbles and about a 2* fall on the overflow part to hopefully not let the water fall so it will roll or slide in. it has a 7/16 opening that I still have to round over the edges. Hopefully this will keep critters out but not stop water like teeth do. It will have two 10 ½ openings so 21” total I think the water runs about ¼ thick on my current HOB OF box. If any of this is wrong please correct me now.

Nice job on the overflow. Why two float valves? Not totally understanding what you are doing there.

mixing station.

rodi on the left and sw on the right. I'm going to drill the sw side and use an external pump might even slope the bottom. my thinking is when I want to make sw just open the ballvalve and the rodi will fill up and then add the salt let it mix and then turn on the heater. After all this then flood the sump and let it mix for a while then drain the sump back to the preset level. Kinda set up like and auto water change but still has manual settings.
This does mean that my ro/di container I currently use will be up for sale L8ER.

Edit: I will transfer all the ATO stuff over to the new sump. but I'm think I’ll drill the 75 after tanking it down and set it up with an overflow and then maybe sale it. But I did learn that it might have been easier to use glass for the overflow or use the Weldon after first piece is put in. kind of hard to do the back inside of the overflow if it’s one piece. Hope I did not confuse you.

Did not get much done this weekend. :^( … ON THE TANK

but did plenty of the honey do’s !!

Decided to stay with an internal pump on the SW mixer. Did not want to raise the bottom but thought I would get better end results. It’s slopped just a little bit. The purpose is so that when I pump the SW mix down I can get almost all of it out so it won’t sit for a week. I dont have it sealed yet. waiting for other stuff to come in.

Looking good Charles! On one of my days off(hahaha) I need I come check out the set up.

i'll have plenty more pics first. the 120 is behind the mixer still on the kitchen table. it LQQKs like it wont get to install it until maybe 2 weeks. I'm shooting for this weekend but I don't know.

You do some nice, clean work. I need to find a free day (like that will happen) and come check this out too. :-) I am not too proud to steal ideas from others. hehehehehe

false bottom installed and added another membrane so now I can get about 1gal/10min. RO/DI water

Pics of the mixing station in the pantry. Replaced the floor covering and put covers on the tank and added nylon bolts for handles. Still need to run the RO/DI line and power and swap out the pantry door.

Don't know why some of the pics are rotated :^(

Well… not much time to do anything this week. Spent Saturday at WCC and Sunday getting ready for a camporee. Has nothing to do with reefs but this is where I’ll be sleepin this weekend. I did mix up some salt and do a water change last night. Still have some bugs to work out but for the most part I think it will work when I swap out the tanks.

Yeah, I need to come over and check out your build as I'll be doing something very similar.

Well let’s see I have stuff all over the house now. Bedroom is covered in parts to use. The kitchen and dining room are now covered with the tank dismantling… the wife is not happy at the moment. I did get mostly everything moved. Still need to move the canopy today. I have learned several things here. First and foremost, if I hear someone say they are going to do one size tank and then upgrade in less than 6 months. I will strongly tell them to NOT do it and just wait. Whereas I have learned a lot of things prior to the move / upgrade, I think it would have been much easier to do the larger tank first.

Well a small update. After getting the 120 and the bottom was not drilled I drilled the left side of the tank. I slid it into place and… did not like where it was sitting. After sitting the tank further up it blocked 2 of the drilled holes so I had to drill 2 more. Then after debating on how to run the pipes, tweaking and such and several hours later the drains are almost done.

I have to admit, the idea of drilling my own tank still spooks more more than a little, especially on larger and more expensive tanks.

I'd love to set something like this up one day, but... oi. I haven't lived any single place much longer than 2 years. Currently living with the wife in fully-finished basement apartment in the Mother-in-Law's house, where we could be for another 3 or 5 years, or just 6 months. Can't imagine going through all this effort then having to move and re-engineer it all.

One day!

Eagle, looking at that plumbing all I have to say is..........you have been watching OCC build too many bike exhausts. LOL I think you are ready for "Paint, Chrome and Powder Coat". LOL Looking good and it is about time we have an update. :-)
