I have been battling STN for several months now. I can't pinpoint the problem. I thought it was the biopellets (STN from base is a common problem). I took them offline a month ago but am still losing tissue. It's very slow. I can't blow the tissue off with a baster like with RTN. I have a pretty simple bb tank. Cal reactor, alpha vertex skimmer, no fuge. Params are all spot although; ph is a little low. I know others here have had similar challenges. Any thoughts or advise? I'm losing very nice large colonies. All chalice and zoos are doing fine. Help!!!

Did it happen when you switched from LEDs back to halide and t5?

I still think that if corals get used to LEDs, it's hard on them to go back to uv exposure

If it was happening before then, what salt and what parameters?

Do you run a uv?

Lol, yeah that would do it....

Anytime, my SPS don't look good, albet it it always from tip down, I do 40% water changes 7 days apart, change my ROX carbon 3-10 days, and change my GFO 3-10 days....for at least a month or more...

LOL At least Ralph you have narrowed down the cause and the solution.

I was not implying that the use of an uv is causing the stn but there has been some discussion as to a possible cause being an undesirable strand of bacteria contributing to stn and uv sterilization may help to reduce it.

Why or how will a 40% water change stop stn? Why 7 days? What does changing carbon do to stop stn? why 3-10 days? What does changing GFO do to stop stn? Why a month or more?

You still never answered me. Lol before or after the light change? We'll get to the other stuff later.

After the light change, I think. There are new colonies that are having the same problems that were added after the light change. I forgot to mention that it's only acros. All montis are looking great with zero problems. It's really frustrating. I may hook GFO and carbon back up to see it that helps.
