Student Discount?

There are plenty of people in college that live lean. I know I did.

If we don't want to extend it to real starving students, we should just scrap it entirely.

I think we should give discounts to any student (including highschool students). I never said otherwise.

Also, it's not a $10 choice. It's a $30 choice. It's not like they are saving all year long. It's a one hit payment. It's easier to make that one hit payment for $20 than $30.

I think of it as a very small perk to students who choose to further their education. My same reasoning for active service military. It's a very common practice.

Actually, be aware that the procedures for changing items in the bylaws and constitution are different (and the procedure itself is in there as well). A bylaws change requires a more formalized process, as well as voting on by the community.

So if somebody signed up to take a class in....say basket weaving....you'd give them the discounted fare? What about for on-line classes where they don't give ID's? We do have to draw the line somewhere and as Mojo said, it was brought up before a long while ago and it was decided then to give the discount to those 18 yrs and under.

Helene- I'm sorry that you're going to get drug through all this so that a couple people can have 83 cents more in their pocket each month. The reason it was changed a couple years ago was to simplify it for our membership coordinators. I don't have any power anymore, but I don't support any change now for the same reason it was changed a couple years ago- to make the signup process more clear and easier for our volunteers. I'm sorry to see the change put in motion and add more work to your plate, just so a few people can get a small discount.

Hmmm, I'll drop it then. it doesn't seem particularly fair to me but it is what it is. Honestly, it doesn't affect me anyway.
