Wow. That's a huge wipe. Sorry for your loss. I know this is too late but you should look into getting a controller to protect you investment in the future. What did the temp rise too?

sorry for your loss...i can donate a few candy cane heads when you are ready. Let me know.

What Will A Controller Do I Am Ordering A 1/5 Chiller Which Will Be Over Kill But I Plan On Upgrding To A 210 Soon,my Tank Is Sitting At 98 Right Now And Thats With 2 Fan Blowing On The Water

A controller could automatically turn off all of the lights when a high temp point is reached. Not much else it could do if fans are already running and room temp is really high. Did you turn down your A/C?

Sorry to hear about your loss. Let me know when you get thing back up and running and I can donate some frags.

I'm cheap so no aquacontroller...I have a cheapo temp controler. The max temp is 80 on it, so that's where it's set. Above 80 and the power is shut off. You can get them for about $50.

I'm really sorry about the tank crash, btw. I don't have much but might have a torch available if you want that when you are ready.

my dads cheap also but 50 would be too much for him. loll need any help let me know i dont have much that i can give really since i dotn even have enoguh for the tank.

Very sorry to hear about this!

I am not sure 1/5 will be overkill for a 210... I have a 1/4 on my 120, though I have a large sump that is under the house, and not air-conditioned. I think it has been running quite a bit this week. It also gives a bit of extra capacity in case my AC cuts out.

In addition to cutting off lights and turning on fans, as mentioned, some of the controllers can start kicking out emails (and/or text messages to your cell phone) when things get out of range. This last feature saved my tank when a circuit blew while I was out of town.

This heat wave really is a mess.

One other thing folks may be missing... At least in my experience, evaporation (and the cooling it gives) is far more dependent on the humidity than anything else. Over the weekend, when this latest steam bath started, I had to cut down my dosing pump (kalk-makeup water) waay back, as evaporation had dropped significantly. Also, the fans become less effective as the humidity goes up.

Sorry, I did not make myself clear on that  My point was more that 1/5 might be a bit small for the 210. It is certainly more than plenty for the current tank!

It might depend on the brand somewhat as well.. Better ones might have more head room (efficiency, etc). They also would tend to assume that the AC was working, etc. in that figure, I would think.

I have a Pacific Coast... among the least expensive, at least when I got it, but sometimes a bit touchy. Flow on this one has to be right (high), or it blows fuses.

Perhaps someone else with a 210 and a chiller will jump in here to see if I am off base.

I would take care here... I suspect that there will be a cycle in the near term. A lot of smaller critters such as pods, worms, sandbed stuff, etc. may have died off and will be taking a few days for that to really show up.

This happened to me when I did a baking soda overdose (really major). Everything seemed fine, even the fish and corals, but there was a delayed reaction cycle that took out a number of things. I'd give it a week or two at a minimum to make sure. Hopefully, this heat wave will have broken by then as well.
