my Copperband Butterfly is about 3-1/2 inches, just added her to my tank late yesterday evening, in the darkness of my 160 tank, shes been staying in the upper half of my back corners just swimming around up there since. Never seen any aggression until late today. when my blonde naso tang started chasing her?? also my sailfin was chasing her also. I pulled her out and per her in my 40 gal Qt tank for the meantime. Im thinking i need a fish holder /trap attached to my inside tank now for all new fish and release them as the original tank mates accept her. so if they chase the new fish they cannot get close to them. of course i will have to feed to fish in the holding container. anyone have plans or know were i can get one. I thought these fish were compatible because of their differences?? :mad2::doh:

maybe i pulled her too quick, only 1 full day and a half. i think i will get her eating first before i re intro her into the 160, add some pics of copperbands on the 160 glass for a week. thanks

I went to petco and bought a large hermit acrylic box and drilled holes in all the sides
I use it on every new fish after qt I just acclimate to tank put in the hermit box leave for couple days and it seems to work pretty well and doesn't stress all the fish to bad .
I have a whip fin wrasse in the box now waiting
Good luck

He says he pulled her out and put her in QT for the meantime. He also, at least according to other posts, just obtained this fish within the past couple of days. I do not think he QT'ed this fish.

You two are talking about different posts I think. I believe Camellia was talking about containerman's post while you are taklking about reefstinger's post.

Sorry folks I know I took a chance but the aptasia is starting to spread in my 160. I did not Qt to begin with, I acclimated and put her in my 160 tank, then pulled her after 1-1/2 days. I know its dumb not to QT fish, but in my past experience coming from LFS to a Qt to a Display seems too much stress for any fish. I lost 4 fish over the past few years by QT, in my 40 QT tank. I know its not smart. The fish looks healthy and eat some to begin with, was extremely active so I took the chance, Now she is in my Qt seems better today. fed her but not seen her eat yet. I seen no ich or parasites signs.. But that means nothing. just for safety though im feeding all my fish Metro and Focus mixed with frozen Larrys reef frenzy. I usually only buy from very limited LFS's again nothing is fail safe. Right now all fish look Ok and healthy. Thanks for all the relies. MY QT is setup with dual hob overflow with carbon filters changed every 4 days. Unless I treat fish with chemicals for ich or other parasites. im just confused by thinking my tangs would just ignore her which they did for hours , then started picking on her. remember Ive been in this hobby for only 4 years and have done stupider things!!

ok I got sime LR in my fuge with Aptasia, ill try that. thanks

Going from LFS to QT is not that stressful if the QT is set up properly with good water, and the QT period lasts several weeks.

Did you see the fish eat at the LFS at least?

It's normal for the tank bullies to give some grief to the new fish. If the new fish is sure to be healthy (ie through sufficient observation in QT first to make sure it's disease-free and eating), then you will know that it's well nourished and rested before you move it into the schoolyard.

Jenn, No I did not see the fish eat , I know im a DA ,but she was very active now, she is now not as shy and moving around QT tank like shes looking to eat, I added Brine and Mysis to spot feed her, added brine pellet food, NO luck , If she don't eat I guess she dies. Nothing else I can do but intice her with different foods, I added a LR to to the tank with Aptasia, yesterday. its still there. Wonder if i sacrifice a snail or crab she will eat?? She just swims on by the food???

Is it picking at the rock at all? Or picking at anything it sees on the bottom of the tank? If it is - then it's eating *something*.

Mysis is usually the food of choice to get picky fish to eat. Try adding some garlic (garlic juice if you don't have a commercial preparation handy). You can also try some Seachem Entice if you can find it locally. Garlic usually does the trick though.

How long have you had the fish?

5 days and she is swimming healthy. looks good but not seen her eat of she is eating , I have been feeding Frozen mysis and Brine mixed with regular garlic juice. Thanks

Be careful not to foul the water with too much uneaten food. Vacuum up leftovers if necessary but do keep trying to entice it to eat.

Do you know how long the store had it, and if it was eating? If so, what was it eating there?

You're doing all the right things, best I can tell - offering it food, some live rock with aiptasia for it to pick at...

Hopefully it will come around and eat. It's not unusual for even a well-acclimated fish to be off its feed for a few days when moved to a new environment, but after 5 days it *should* be eating something.
